From Wired News:

Russia’s Top Cyber Sleuth Foils US Spies, Helps Kremlin Pals

Kaspersky's response:

What Wired Is Not Telling You – a Response to Noah Shachtman’s Article in Wired Magazine

Wired's rebuttal:

Kaspersky Denies Kremlin Ties, Compares Himself to Indiana Jones

Interesting afternoon reading. :)

I've been a reader of Wired on and off for 15 years, mostly on the past 5. The Shachtman piece went beyond "creditude" when it went into the kidnapping subject. It wouldn't be the first time that Wired went a bit overboard in presenting a story in this manner, nor the first time an author was allowed to present rumor and speculation as near fact.

The July issue has a semi-review of W8 by Clive Thompson, i recommend it highly , especially for the last sentence.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. ~C. S. Lewis
