I'm still using 11.0.
Ahaaaaaa . . . well, there you have a good reason to upgrade :PAnyway, plug in the camera and post the output of these 2 commands:
# fdisk -l# lsusb

Bus 003 Device 005: ID 04b0:0131 Nikon Corp.
Looks like it is there . . only the fdisk does not show it . . Can you do:
# rescan-scsi-bus -l

And after that again

# fdisk -l

 Bruno

Okay . . . my original info is no longer there: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/linux-new...-pen-drive.htmlBut I found some other info that might help you: http://marcosegato.altervista.org/sections...b_pendrive.htmlYou could first do "lsmod" and see if all the needed modules are loaded as described under "1)." if not modprobe them . . . and then plug the camera in again and see if "fdisk" does give output for /dev/sda . . . once you have output in fdisk the rest is simple. We need to know the /dev/ device ( sda1 or sdb1 or any other /dev ) BrunoPS: Another link: http://www-oss.fnal.gov/projects/fermilinu...sb_devices.htmlAll on USB: http://www.linux-usb.org/FAQ.html

Thank you Bruno, I'll get to reading that in just a sec....I just had an idea (my husband really hates when that happens).I keep forgetting I've got Mandriva on here (duh!) and my camera should download just as easily there as it did in PCLos, non?I'm driving everyone nuts this week getting ready for my son's wedding tomorrow. I guess you're in that same company now too, eh?

I'm downloading them into Mandriva as I type this.
You're right Sue . . that is a lot easier :DB) BrunoPS: Once the wedding is over and done with we can experiment with /dev/sda1 and see if gambling on that /dev device would pay off ;)

Once the wedding is over, I should have time to install 12.0. Think of all those pictures I'll have to remove from my memory card! :D Thanks for letting me drive you nuts. :)

Hmm, according to wiki...

A memory card reader is a device, typically having a USB interface, for accessing the data on a memory card such as a CompactFlash (CF), Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMediaCard (MMC). Most card readers also offer write capability, and together with the card, this can function as a pen drive.
How is that different than what plugging my camera directly into the usb port does? Sounds like something to spend my money on that would be better off spent elsewhere....like on a new printer!LOL

Here's why Sue:http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00AsNXYears ago before my Oly I had another digicam, I always used the straight-from-the-camera-download method, until one time the batteries ran out of juice during downloading. Poof, there went my pictures into unrecoverable state. That way I learned a lesson and since I use a Card Reader. Better save than sorry, especially for just a lousy couple of bucks a Card Reader nowadays cost. :D

Actually any cheapo cardreader that accepts the kind of cards you have ( SD, CF, MS, mmc, XD etc. etc. ) will do the trick. It makes the job so much easier :)( It even does not matter if it is USB 2.0 or 1.2 . . . with "only" 1 GB of files to transfer the speed does not really makes that much difference . . . and usually the 1.2 ones are a lot cheaper :D )B) Bruno** Sure, that is how quick old technology fades in your memory . . . USB 1.2 should be 1.1 . . . Thanks Adam.

If you don't have a camera that takes large photos (less than 5 Megapixel) and if you don't take many pics, then this would be an acceptable way to go. However, USB2.0 is about 40 times faster than USB 1.0 or 1.1. It would be hard to find a SD card reader that is only going to do USB 1.0 or 1.1. I simply would recommend that you get one that is USB 2.0.:)Adam

Thanks Bruno. I've narrowed down a couple of choices but will probably go for the cheapest. :)

That would be me and my camera! I'm the type who usually leaves it on my desk when we go out. Or if I do take it, I forget to remove it from its case. :D

Just the same, I would say that going with a USB 2.0 card reader will make you a hapier penguin. 1.1 is excruciatingly slow.Adam

So I'll look for the cheapest 2.0 then. Thanks Adam.
