Specmon
I'm helping a friend find his footing with a computer he's owned for two years, but never learned to use.Lots of our "help" sessions are by phone, so sometimes he doesn't communicate his problems clearly. He has an ablum's worth of .flac files that he wants to burn to an audio CD. We are using Nero 7 Essentials, came with his DVD burner.Burning mp3 was straigthforward, but apparently Nero needs some addon codec to convert the .flac files to .wav on the CD. Over the phone, I'm not sure of the precise details. Is Nero 7 Essentials capable of dealing with .flac files, or do I need to find an additional codec?Or just as simply, is there a free program that will burn the .flac files to a music CD?I'm not chained to nero, is just what we have on hand at the moment.Any help appreciated. zlim
I found this How do I burn FLAC to CD?Windows Users:Option A: (Recommended)1. Download and install the latest FLAC Front-End software.2. Decode your FLAC files to WAV files.3. Use your favorite CD burning software to burn the WAV files to CDOption B: (Requires Nero Burning ROM version 5.5.9.0 or higher)1. Download and install the FLAC plug-in for Nero Burning ROM.2. Use the Nero software with the FLAC plug in to burn the FLAC files directly to CD. Using the plug in, Nero will decode the files for you before burning. I'm still trying to figure out if v7 already has the plugin. The info I'm finding is for v5 and 6 of Nero. From looking at sites like this http://www.softwareoutlet.com/p-7954.htmlit appears that v7 Essentials consists of a burning program and 30 day trials of most of the other items. The Nero site offers Nero 7 Premium http://www.nero.com/eng/Datasheets.html I can't find anything for Essentials on the Nero site. I think this is an OEM version.I downloaded the manual for Nero Burning ROM and the manual says - no plugins. When I check the Nero site for plugins, they charge for them. Now, the better method might be to forget Nero and use something else. I went to the FLAC site and found this If you want to burn FLAC files to CD, here is a short list of the most popular programs: * Windows Media Player (WMP) - Sorry, Microsoft has made it impossible to burn FLAC to CD in WMP; hopefully this will change eventually. * dbPowerAMP CD Writer - Install the FLAC plugin. * Burrrn - Supports burning from FLAC out of the box. Here are choices in Windows:1. free http://dbpoweramp.com/cdwriter.htm2. free http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=43. free, but not developed much http://www.burnatonce.net/downloads/4. shareware http://www.milosoftware.com/cdwave/5. $ http://www.poikosoft.com/6. $ http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/creator/...e/features.html Edited March 23, 2007 by zlim

ross549
Normalizing simply means that the volume level of each song is adjusted to make them all approximately the same. It is very useful when burning a "mix CD."
