brucekrymow
Greetings, All ~ I have an old tower I was thinking about recycling as a small file server. How tough, if at all possible, would it be to hook it up to a stationary standalone notebook running XP Pro SP1 for just this purpose? The notebook has 2 USBs, a firewire & a parallel port open. Basically, I want to connect the tower to my notebook and use it for storage. I have no idea really what this set up would be called or where to start. Can anything be done here? If more info is needed, please ask.
zox
Well, network hookup would be the best and most standard one, however if you have firewire on both, you can hook them up that way, that would be very fast indeed.Because you said it is an old tower, somehow I doubt that it has firewire port so the cheapest solution for you would be to get network. It also depends on what do you want to use, I mean you can use any operating system for this purpose, but this would be great chance to try something new, say..
