Martini Lover
I read this earlier today, and my first thought was that there had to be more to it than it sounds. I find it hard to believe that a large company like that would commit fraud as easily as that. I would prefer to believe that he got the "free" msn account and somehow logged on wrong and gave them them his cc number. ..............Wait a minute, I bought this laptop from Best Buy. I have to go now and check my credit card statement.

Stryder
You can't really blame MS for this. The reason I said it was not surprising is because you are talking about mainly a bunch of teenagers that are responsible for informing you of this. And even on the rare occasion that the cashier is not a teenager, the person has the obvious attitude of wanting to be somewhere else. I do not think it is a scam as much as I think it is poor management and even worse customer service.
Jeber
Hey, Stryder, I'm a manager for a company that's a wholly-owned subsidiary of Best Buy..... and you're right. BB is intent more on getting additional revenue by any means than providing customer service (even poor customer service would be a step up). I've never worked for a company that cares less about their product line than about the "add-on sale" items. "What kind of computer would you recommend?" "Who cares, but be sure to get a Product Replacement Plan, join our frequent shopper program and, oh, here's an Earthlink disk."My company is up for sale again (only 2 years after BB bought us and nearly ruined our reputation) and I'll only be too glad to stand at the dock waving goodbye as the ship BB sails off into the sunset. (sound bitter?...you betcha)(Disgruntled-employee-of-the-month P.S.) For a biased view of BB practices, check out this site. WARNING: very adult content!!
