Peachy Posted April 24, 2003 Share Posted April 24, 2003 I've been reading a wonderful book published by Osborne written by Steven Graham and Steve Shah (ISBN 0-07-222562-9). This is one in their series of Essential Skills - Made Easy! books. I would consider this a good starting point for a Linux newbie. It gives a good overview of using Linux as a server and it highlights the differences and similarities between it and Windows 2000 Server. Even if you're not going to use it as a server OS, the first part of the book gives some easily understood chapters on basic console administration chores. What I really liked about the book is that it manages to give you quite a lot of information without being overly dry and technical about it. What I hate about Dummies series is I find that the chapters are not arranged in any logical or consistent way that makes sense. I wouldn't tell people not to buy it, because I wouldn't myself, but if they think it's worth their time and money, by all means. Having said that it's probably in your local library anyway and that would probably be the best place to check it out. BrunoThe UNIX class I took in college used the UNIX in a Nutshell book (by O'Reilly)... It's been a big help getting me back into Linux!
