Loading Your Music Player

My Master Playlist is nearly 2Gig in size (nearly 300 songs). I just revamped/updated it this afternoon. It's going to take hours to upload it back to my little music player via usb.

It's very COOL, but very slow. :( One day, I guess this process will get faster. For now, I'll just leave the system running for the next four or so hours till this thing finishes.

*sigh* Gotta' do it, though. Must have music for those long bike rides/walks.

It will be worth it when its finished. I love using mine when I'm working in the yard.

Indeed!!

Its funny, I end up using Pandora when I am on the go even though I have a ton of music. I am to the point now where it is hard to find anything I want to listen to. It is easier to listen to a streaming radio service like Pandora or iHeartRadio.

Ha, that's nothing.... I have 191gb of music = 13,332 mp3s  :pirate:

It would take a lot of bike riding and walking to listen to that set all the way through. ;)

Yuppers. I love my little players (I have two). Every once in a while I update the mix, though. I haven't done it in a while (6 months or more). I had forgotten how slow usb 2.0 is. :(

If it's a 2GB music player, even on USB 2, it should finish loading the music within a few minutes. I wonder why it is taking sooo long. USB 1.1 is super slow, but USB should zip along pretty quickly. Most flash chips write data 5MB/sec or so, and it should be done pretty quickly.

WOW! My second little player loaded that entire Master Playlist in less than 1 hour, and I just realized why...

The first one I loaded last night and this morning (nearly 7 hours total) is USB 1.0. The faster one I loaded just a few minutes ago is USB 2.0.

Don't let anyone tell you there isn't a massive transfer rate improvement between 1.0 and 2.0.

I can tell you first hand there is a massive difference in the USB speeds.

I'm imaging 5 of the computers in the house. My hubby's old 2K is off the grid. I removed the security software, then I cleaned it, and defragged it. The hd is 40GB total and less than 1/2 of that is used. Unfortunately the USB port must be 1.1 because the image (the last I will do for that computer - hallelujiah) took close to 2 hours!!! I know the 500GB portable hd is USB 2 because there is a tag on the USB cord.

I had my netbook with me and was working on other things while I kept one eye on his computer. It scared me because when it started it said 5 hours! Thank goodness it lied.

One of these days I'm going to build a new system with that superfast USB 3.0.

Sadly, I got all my music loaded and updated, but didn't get a chance to go for a bike ride today. Rain in the forecast for the next few days. I hope I can sneak in a ride tomorrow. :)
