longgone
My question is this. On these cell phone/smart phones, where is the memory located at. I don't know if they have a hard drive in the sense that a desktop or laptop has a hard drive. Is their memory on the SD card or the SIMM card or somewhere else? securitybreach
Built in ROM or flash memory Basically there is internal memory and some devices allow additional memory with a microsd card
securitybreach
For instance, my phone has 16gb storage built in but 1gb of that is used up by the OS.
longgone
So,,, in other words, I would have a problem trying to erase the memory on my own????
securitybreach
What memory? The storage or the OS? If the Storage, you can choose Factory Reset in the settings,
longgone
Basically, the OS so that I can get rid of the phone, any other stored memory would be fine too. End result that I would like to achieve is a bare phone.
securitybreach
Just do a factory reset. http://www.wikihow.c...r-Android-Phone This will reset the phone just like it was new.
longgone
Hummm ,, I am sure (I think) that would work if I could get past the %$#$% "ransom ware" bug/virus it has on it. At the moment that is not letting me get to the settings menu.
Capt.Crow
There is a rash of this thing at the moment . From what I remember a friend plugged his phone into the laptop . Accessed his files ,retrieved them and then got to the factory reset . Strange though he did lose about 50% of his contacts list . On the up side he doesn't have the garbled Russian scrolling across the screen now. And the phone is again perfect
longgone
I have the "Hitman Pro 3.7" on a flash drive, what I don't have is the knowledge to get it from the flash drive to the phone, not to mention the means of connecting the two together. You need mtpfs, it should be available in your distro's repos. MTP is the "Media Transfer Protocol" and is used by many mp3 players (e.g. Creative Zen) and mobile phones (e.g. Android 3+ devices). longgone
Looks to me like that "tutorial" for mtpfs is for use in a Linux system. My desktop & laptop both have Win 8.1 installed.
