kamicota Posted February 1, 2013 Share Posted February 1, 2013 (edited) Finally Wiped the hard drive and after seeing the post ond windows8 dual boot - PLEASED we are still XP/Linux Went for Linux mINT 14 KDE - THOUGHT this was little WILD decision & the jury is still out yet Friends Acer Lappy - something or other after much abuse would not asccept recovery discs. So tried the New PCLinuxOS 2012.12 - but after 400+mb updates it went to 2013??? and would not boot - so on went Linux Mint 14 Mate and works like a charm. Friend is happy although a LITTLE confused but it is mostly songs Youtube etc he plays with. kamicota Posted February 1, 2013 Author Share Posted February 1, 2013 Yep but "ISSUES" - RESURFACED - tried to set up Kmail (not my favourite) - but system crashed - screen showing low battery ++++++ - and would not reboot from that situation So off to XP and everything working FINE. The Install of Mint the newest KDE & the previous Mate desktop were very similar to PCLinux - I did not allow it to take over the whole Partition but made / /home & Swap partitons - and even the Mate had a few similar hiccups too. KDE did not seem as polished as Mate even though Mate/Evolution Mail program - gave me three downloads each of the same topic. - Instead 1 in the inbox we had three the same.
