Problems w CD copying

I am having two problems with copying CD's using Roxio Easy Cd Creator 5 Platinum. I just updated last night to the latest 5.4.x version.I have 3 drives :- External Plextor 48x USB 2 CD-RW- Pioneer DVR-104 DVD -r/w burner- Pacific Digital 16x DVD-ROM driveProblem #1 :If I use disc copier to make a copy of an audio disk, source in the DVD-ROM, it freezes after scanning about 65% of the tracks.Problem #2 :If I use disc copier to make a copy of an audio disk, source in the DVR-104, it works fine, but slow. Roxio uses the adaptive speed setting which is supposed tp write at the best speed the media can accept. The speed quickly drops & eventually gets to a final spped of no more than 16x. I have tried several different types of CD-R media, with no difference in the results. If I create a data project, I get an average write speed of 30 - 40x. Why is disc copier so much slower. Is this a Roxio/Plextor problem, or can audio CD's only be copied at the slower speed. Previously I had a 16x burner & I could copy at full speed. I applied the latest Plextor firmware update, no change. My system :Sony Vaio 1.8ghz Pentium IV512 meg PC 2100 DDR SDRAM80 gig ATA 100 drive36 gig ultra scsi 15k Seagate driveSIIG PCI USB 2 card4 USB 1.1 & 2 Firewire connections ( 4 & 6 pin )XP home w sp1 & all updatesAdaptec Easy Cd Creator 5.x PlatinumPinnacle Studio 8DVDxCOPY 1.5.0Norton System Works 2003I do have a support request into Roxio, but I haven't received a response yet. I was hoping maybe someone on this forum has had a similar problem & found a fix. Thanks in advance,

Does this happen with all audio discs? Have you used Roxio's drive diagnostics for all your opticals? This should give you an idea of their capabilities and real speeds. There may also be some bearing on the slave/master relationship. Some drives are just better at ripping (digital audio extraction) than others. My old 12X Plextor burner, rips CD's in half the time it takes my HP 16X DVD. How are the speeds when using disc copier with data discs?I have seen similiar problems with Roxio on a friend's rig, we then tried Nero, and all went smoothly.

The Pioneer DVR-104 is the master & the DVD-ROM is the secondary on the same IDE channel. I see the problem on all audio discs, I haven't tried to copy any data discs. I'll try that this weekend. Also both drives have DMA enabled. The first time you copy from/to a drive, Roxio runs its speed test to see what the drive supports. Is there an additional test to run ?.I would assume that copying should be faster when the source is the DVD-ROM, but that doesn't work at all. This may be a stupid question, but are there issues with a USB2 device talking to a device on the secondary slave IDE connection ?.Thanks,

This weekend I updated to the latest version of ECDC, 5.3.4.21 I believe. ECDCD no longer locks up when the source disk is in the DVD-ROM. However the speed is still not there. I ran the CD tests & found no problems.I then installed Nero Burning Rom 5.5 & upgraded it the the latest version 5.10.10 I believe.CD copying with Nero seems to be at full speed. Nero also uses teh PowerRec option to pick the best speed the media supports. However with Nero it doesn't tell you exactly what speed it actually wrote at.Now that I see better performance with Nero, I know it is a software isssue w Roxio.I still like the ECDC interface/tool better though.Does anyone have any experience with Roxio's new 6.0 product. I wonder if that would be the ticket ?.

Work with it and give it a chance, it feels little odd at first, but it is a very comprehensive program. Since Roxio took over from Adaptec the road has been rocky with EZCD Creator.
Now that I see better performance with Nero, I know it is a software isssue w Roxio.
Better performance will always be my first criteria in a program. And OEM versions of Nero can be had for less than $20.http://www.nextaisle.com/tek9.asp?pg=produ...cific=jqdphqepm
