uSoft: free upgrade to W10 + activation issue = SOL

I have 3 Windows desktops. All were running purchased retail copies of W7 Home Premium.  When the free W10 upgrade was announced, I upgraded all of them, and then rolled them back.  A week ago, I successfully upgraded all of them to W10.  Today I noticed that they didn't have the May 2019 update, so I applied it.  No problem on 2 machines.  The 3rd one claimed it couldn't activate  (not a valid code).  I called Microsoft, and went up 2 levels of escalation.  Their answer:

"Yes your W7 product code is valid for a copy of Windows 10.  However, since your code is a WIndows 7 code, all we can suggest is that you buy a W10 code, or uninstall W10, go back to W7, apply the code there, and try the upgrade again". I.e, he wanted me to completely rebuild my system in the hope (no guarantee) that things would go better this time.

I asked if this was their policy, and if anyone who took advantage of the free upgrade and has a problem after applying an update is at risk for losing the ability to run W10 without being willing to rollback to W7, and the Microsoft 2nd-level escalation supervisor rep (Sumit, in India) said yes.

So if you used the free upgrade to W10, I recommend never applying a major W10 update again, unless you're prepared to buy a new license.

In an effort to enhance and speed up changes to Notepad on Windows 10 it will be moved to Microsoft Store.  From Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18963 | Windows Experience Blog:

Making Notepad store-updatable

Notepad has been a well-loved text editor in Windows for over 30 years. Over the last few releases, we've been making a number of small improvements to Notepad based on your feedback (including expanded line ending support, wrap around search, and indicating when there's unsaved content.) Starting with this build, we're making a change so that future Notepad updates will be automatically available via the store. This will allow us the flexibility to respond to issues and feedback outside the bounds of Windows releases. As always, if you have any feedback for Notepad, we welcome it in the Feedback Hub under Apps > Notepad.

Other changes already made to Notepad include wrap around search, text zoom, search autofill, line numbers when using word wrap. search with Bing, and better UTF-8 support.
