Prelude76 Posted May 16, 2003 Share Posted May 16, 2003 Help me, guys! ever since I installed Linux, I can't stop thinking about it, I always boot up in Linux instead of Windows, and I sometimes just stare at every icon and click on every program, most of time with my jaw dropped! And at work, where i'm forced to use a Windows system, all I do is visit Linux website and this forum and then wait til 4pm so i can go home and try this and that in linux. thanks guys, now i'm a penguin geek. How can i go back to windows and not think of what i could be clicking in Linux? is it possible? could that be what that SCO lawsuits are about, because Linux is too good to stop any other way? I think with the latest round of distros, Linux has become ready for the desktop. It has finally made it over the hump. I have not been this into just being in front of my computer in a long time. I use my laptop more often than desktop, and the laptop is running Windows almost exclusively, soo... I do have Cygwin installed on all my machines..so I can compile programs in GCC through Cygwin..I have successfully load X11 and KDE 2.x in Cygwin before.. quite a memory hog though Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

People need to know they are not held down by MS and there are options. Many great people here to help and that really makes a difference for a linux newbie. I know what it is like trying to ask help in linux forums, this place is very user friendly. BarryB Posted May 18, 2003 Share Posted May 18, 2003 Yes Linux is very addictive....And I'm having a blast becoming that way(Plus I can remember what I did...big bonus!!! .. I'm enjoying learning my computers in a more complete way. This group is great too...I like the fact that the advise is written to help where even I can understand it..( you really don't realize what a major accomplishment that is)LOL...I have the only kids in the neighborhood who know who"Tux"is (ages 3,5,7..and each use various linux and open source apps) Hopefully they will grow into knowing there is always an alternative..and hopefully they will understand that learning is a never ending process..and I'm using linux (and tons of help from folks like you ladies and gentlemen)to help teach them that. Guest LilBambi Posted May 18, 2003 Share Posted May 18, 2003 I agree, Linux is a wonderful and flexible OS.I found it totally annoying to have to dualboot between Windows and Linux constantly due to my various program needs in both OSes! So, I built a new box for my Linux and but both computers on a KVM switch. Now I have both OSes running all the time ... I will never be able to go back to using just Windows ever again! BarryB Posted May 18, 2003 Share Posted May 18, 2003 Yes I love networking,,,we have nine...it's a mixed router to ethernet and router bridged to PNA through a switch to ethernet...Linux doesn't like PNA(or I just haven't figured it out yet ...) Had to go PNA , my wife won't let me run cat5..but my next projects are a wireless acess point and adding an apple in the loop..He He..that is if my wife will let me..for some reason she get upset when I go near a computer store..Thank god for online buying!!
