How do I set Firebird (Phoenix) so that when I click on a link that would open in a new window, that it opens in a new tab? Or is this even an option?

I just right click on it and choose open in new tab
got that figured out, but was curious if there was any way to set it as the default option... it's just annoying to be working and then click on a link and all of the sudden be in a completely different window....

Cool site here for help with Phoenix, err, I mean Firebird:Firebird Help(the site already has the name changed to firebird!)According to these keyboard key shortcuts, you can do alt + enter to get a URL to open in a new tab. Also, Also apparently, there are extensions you can add to your preferences, mouse gestures and tabbing preferences here.Hope that helps.

I like simplicity and when I want link to open in new tab I just click link with my scrool wheel instead of button. If you want more "technical" aproach, you can install "Tabbed Browsing Extension" and one of the options is "Single Page Mode" where every link intended to open in new window opens in new tab instead.Anyway, this is great extension for many other features, so check it out here:http://white.sakura.ne.jp/~piro/xul/_tabex...ensions.html.en

Thanks for the help Bambi and Zox....I'd use my wheel to click on links, but with my wheel set to "double-click" it doesn't work with the middle button setting (yes I've checked the preferences). Weird glitch, but I suppose it makes sense. Anyway, I downloaded the tabbrowser extensions and we'll see how that goes! ;)

okay... whenever I install the Tabbed browsing extensions, and then reboot Firebird, it doesn't work... Firebird opens, but nothing displays (no toolbars, no webpages, no nothing). I can dump the zip file back into the folder and it will work again, but the plugin is not there... any ideas as to what could be the problem?

The one I tried is the one Zox suggested (but it's also linked to on the Phoenix site).... the only other extension for tabbed browsers on the Phoenix site doesn't seem to download.

GolfProRM --You might want to wait till the dust settles and try the one specifically for Firebird once all their links get updated... there will be many changes ... and there were links that just weren't working yet with the name change being so new and site changes being implemented probably as we speak. These things may take a little bit of time to complete.

Well, I posted link directly to developer site. There should be the most up to date version.Majority of the Firebird users are swearing by this extension and for some time that has been sticky as "must have" extension on Firebird forums. However, on developer site I found this statement

This is for Netscape 7 later or Mozilla 1.0 later. And, it tentatively works with Phoenix 0.5. (but that's only an experiment. Please don't expect my permanent support!)
which lead me to believe that Tabbed extension is really not 100% ok under Firebird, especially nightly builds.I am personally not using any extensions since I like my browser clean.Sorry if it caused you any troubles, as I meant only to help  Next time I'll test something before I recommend it.

it's not a problem... I don't know why it didn't work... I'm not using nightly builds or anything like that... I just use the version 0.5 they have on the website... I'm going to play with the extension tonight and see if I can get it to work. I do appreciate the help and it's probably just a glitch with my machine...

Okay... after some playing around with it, I was able to get it to work! What I had to do was set it so I didn't have my tabs showing when I start up Firebird. After I did this, and then installed the extension, it worked! Like I said above, the problem was on my end. It's just a weird glitch with this extension. I tell you though, if you like the tabbed browser feature of Phoenix, give this a try! It gives you so much more customization of the tabs! (See Zox's post above for the link)
