Back Up For W 10.

What are you using for backing up W10 and making a system image? Prefer free, but if not too expensive will buy one. I like to make an image about every months.

I attempted to make one from the control panel but it evidently was meant for W7.

Many thanks, Jerry

Hello,

I've seen people report good experiences with Acronis, Paragon and the aforementioned Macrium Reflect. Also Clonezilla.

I use the W7 Backup and Restore app with my W10 systems. I have for yrs. I backup to a separate partition on the hard drive before Windows upgrades and monthly updates, and to a separate USB drive every 3 - 4 months.

Make sure you create a Windows System Repair disc or USB stick to use with the backups. And test it before you need it.

A Disk Management screen shot is good to keep handy also.

Ed _P,

The following features and functionalities in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update are either removed from the product in the current release (“Removed”) or are not in active development and might be removed in future releases (“Deprecated”).

System Image Backup (SIB) Solution

We recommend that users use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors.

Don't forget that you can use a couple of free Microsoft tools: WinPE and DISM: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/capture-images-of-hard-disk-partitions-using-dism

WinPE can be gotten by installing the latest Assessment and Deployment Kit: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/get-started/adk-install

DISM can be used to restore an image too.
