raymac46 Posted March 20 Posted March 20 One of the longest journeys in my train simulation games is nearly 400 miles from Edinburgh to London on the East Coast Main Line. The scenario shown here is from 1978 where a couple of Class 47 diesels haul some trailers on flatcars on that route. It's a bit tricky because your speed is restricted and you have to give priority to passenger express trains. It takes hours to complete and I am about 2/3 of the way at this point. I just save and continue when I want to play again. Over 500 Class 47 locos were built in the early 1960s and about 30 have been preserved for heritage railways and museums in the UK. 1 Quote

abarbarian Posted March 21 Posted March 21 I have travelled along parts of the East Coast Main Line it is very scenic in parts. I can not remember exactly what I was doing in 1978 so it must have been a groovy time. 1978 was quite a pivotal year for the UK and the world. In the UK we had inflation fluctuating from a high of 26% in 1975 to at that time a historic low of 8%in 1978 and wage demands of 30% rises eventually winning rises of 17%. Historical Events in 1978 Day by day with a lot of US news. http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/years/1978/default.stm https://www.wikiwand.com/en/articles/1978_in_the_United_Kingdom 1978-newspapers The Ford Strike of 1978 and the ‘Winter of Discontent’ What a year. Looking through some of the events I remember a group of us gathered at a friends flat and chilled out on his water bed listening to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy broadcast by the BBC for the first time. 1 Quote
