raymac46 Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Just to let everyone at SNF know we have adopted a cat from the local rescue. His name is Stanley. Stan is 9 years old but in pretty good shape as far as we can see. These older guys often take quite a while to get adopted as most folks want kittens. Stan's owner had to go into a nursing home and give him up. He is a real talker and cuddle bug. Also very laid back and friendly. We think the grandkids will love him. We were missing the companionship of a cat after our beloved Oates passed away last year. Hopefully we'll have a few good years with Stanley. 5 Quote

raymac46 Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 Stanley appears to be settling in pretty well. 4 Quote
raymac46 Posted April 18 Author Posted April 18 (edited) Well we've had Stanley about 4 weeks now and he seems to be settling in pretty well. I have heard of the 3-3-3 rule for adopting a cat: After 3 days - decompresses, starts eating, drinking and using the litterbox. After 3 weeks - really starting to settle in and show his true personality. After 3 months - owns the place. Stan being a bit older and more experienced, was OK with us after a couple of days. After a week he was eager to explore the whole house and had his favorite spots to take a nap. After a month he seems quite happy to live here and snuggle on the couch or on the bed. He still likes to find a cosy dark spot under a table or our bed for his naps. Every cat is different but we sense his gratitude at getting a home, rather than in a foster situation or a pet supply store waiting for adoption. Edited April 18 by raymac46 1 1 Quote
Corrine Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Stanley definitely looks like he has settled in with his new family. I love his coloring. Quote
raymac46 Posted April 26 Author Posted April 26 Another sign that Stanley is getting comfortable living here. He's starting to get off the floor and lie in a higher spot where he can observe the action outside. 2 1 Quote
ebrke Posted April 30 Posted April 30 (edited) I just hope he doesn't get interested in the lovely china on the table next to him. I had to put a lot of things away when I got a young cat who jumped and investigated everything. Every time I think about bringing it out again, I decide to wait another year. He's a great looking cat though! Edited April 30 by ebrke Quote
Cluttermagnet Posted July 4 Posted July 4 Kudos for taking on a shelter cat. He's a handsome guy. And he hopefully will not be climbing the curtains like a kitten. (grin) Clutter 1 Quote
raymac46 Posted July 5 Author Posted July 5 No he is a good old boy. Doesn't scratch anything but his scratching posts. He likes to snuggle and hang out with us. 1 Quote
raymac46 Posted November 27 Author Posted November 27 Last year at this time I did not feel particularly thankful, since I had just lost a wonderful kind and affectionate pet. However, I am grateful again since we now have Stanley. It was a win-win for us since we got a great old kitty and Stan has a permanent home where he is warm and well fed and cuddled. 1 1 Quote
