Hold off on the nvidia update. The fix will come in a day or so:

nvidia is currently partially incompatible with linux >= 5.9 [1] [2]. While graphics should work fine, CUDA, OpenCL, and likely other features are broken. Users who've already upgraded and need those features are advised to switch to the linux-lts kernel for the time being until a fix for nvidia is available.

I install the standard Nvidia on Slack using their installer. Bruno taught me this and I've used that method ever since.

Dynamic Kernel Module Support (DKMS) is a program/framework that enables generating Linux kernel modules whose sources generally reside outside the kernel source tree. The concept is to have DKMS modules automatically rebuilt when a new kernel is installed.

The Nvidia module will be rebuilt after every Nvidia or kernel update thanks to the DKMS pacman hook..... Avoid installing the NVIDIA driver through the package provided from the NVIDIA website. Installation through pacman allows upgrading the driver together with the rest of the system.[/quote]

DKMS makes upgrading Xorg, nvidia, modules, etc. a lot easier to perform.

Looked at that list of dkms modules and had to laugh, they have a "batman" dkms module 😁

This was interesting,

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/droidcam-dkms-git/

A tool for using your android device as a wireless/usb webcam (DKMS)

I might have a go at that later in the winter as it could be a fun project.

An I found this rather horrific, read the comments section to see what I mean,

What on earth !!! When did the AUR become a repository and test bed for Manjaro. 🤔

Well, that's because, as WE ALL KNOW, Arch Linux is the very bestest EVER GNU/Linux distribution!!! 🤪

DKMS works fine in the Debian universe.

I have pretty well switched over to FOSS graphics. AMD and Intel are by and large open source by now. Nouveau works well enough on the older Nvidia hardware I have.

While AUR packages may work on derivatives, they only support Archlinux. Sometimes you will see some Manjaro comments but they usually get shot down rather quickly.

On a related note about similar issues in siduction, quote from towo, lead developer:

Serious hint: sell that crap, buy an AMD Graphicscard.

I probably will next time I'm in the market for one, but I have two Nvidia cards now which are working fine so no reason to replace them atm.

My GTX 1080 works great but I will buy one of the  3080s when the scalpers get done buying them all up to sell for 2-3x the price.

The desktop I fixed up for my younger granddaughter has a GT 520 video card (mind you, it is 3 years newer than the chassis.) A card and PC like that will never play any hard core video games. Nouveau works well for web surfing, writing and videoconferencing. No need for proprietary blobs.
