abarbarian
Python programming language: Now you can take NSA's free course for beginners Quote Developers already have numerous options from the likes of Microsoft and Google for learning how to code in the popular Python programming language. But now budding Python developers can read up on the National Security Agency's own Python training materials. Software engineer Chris Swenson filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the NSA for access to its Python training materials and received a lightly redacted 400-page printout of the agency's COMP 3321 Python training course. Never let it be said that your government does not look after you. Now if only Boris and GCHQ would make a similar offer 1 1

While over here the police are as dumb as a dodo. Instead of encouraging folk to learn about open source technology they are spreading fear and misinformation. UK police tell parents to check if their kids use Linux or Discord because it means they could be hackersAs always, police are out of touch with these kinds of things. Quote The day when open-source operating systems/apps, especially those based on the mainline Linux kernel, come under a smear campaign that it takes a while for authorities to properly react to – surely must be some kind of a sad milestone moment on the web – the very same web which these days depends on, and runs on that very technology. But – the message from British law enforcement seems to be – “don't let your kids use it.” UK police deny responsibility for poster urging parents to report kids for using Kali LinuxUpdated: Using Discord, too, is apparently a warning sign that your child is turning into a naughty hacker. Quote The UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) has publicly said it has nothing to do with a misleading poster designed to put fear into the hearts of parents and urge them to call the police if their children are using Kali Linux. The poster, made public by Twitter user @G_IW, has reportedly been distributed by local authorities on behalf of the West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (WMROCU). It appears the creators of the poster are aiming to inform parents of what dubious software to look out for if they suspect their children are up to no good on the computer. While a good and reasonable intention, the disinformation on the poster, as described by @G_IW, is "staggering." Like I said dodo's. 1
V.T. Eric Layton
Yup. And if you're a user of encryption and/or - GASP! - VPNs, you're an automatic target blip on NSA and CIA screens.

They must have my location on speed dial as I make heavy use of encryption and am always on a swedish VPN. 1

I have to say that I think the police in general do a excellent job over here in the main. They do make some stupid decisions though and whilst some are made by the higher up police most of the dumb decisions are sent through from Whitehall. Someone should remind those folk that linux is used on many more internet connected devices than any "safe to use because criminals don't use our" supposed main stream os. By linux I am including all android devices and such like. They should also be aware that open source is in the rise and any country with half an iota of sense would be teaching open source skills to kids from at least eleven in this country, or the whole country will be left floundering as tech marches on. securitybreach
Microsoft uses Linux on their cloud computing platform and they are working on their own Linux kernel. Plus you can run Linux on Windows 10 as well. This isn't Ballmer's Microsoft.
