securitybreach
I will be so glad when it is killed off next year. Nobody should be using flash for anything. HTML5 is much better.
zlim
I'm running four Windows 7 computers and I have removed flash from all of them in September. I will be so glad when it is killed off next year. Unfortunately that will not happen until December 2020 so with this month included, there are 14 more monthly patches and perhaps 1 or 2 unscheduled ones to get through.

Yes but there will be only security patches, no new "features".

I'm going to be really sad, actually, because none of my browsers (FF, Palemoon, or Basilisk) play HTML5. :(
securitybreach
You should be able to play html5 in firefox no problem. I do it all the time.

securitybreach
Chrome has more support for html5 but most everything that you run across should play in Firefos: Firefox is on the left and Chrome on the right.

securitybreach
I had to google Basilisk but this is from their website: Quote It supports a wide array of features required for the Modern Web, including advanced scripting, CSS, HTML5 and downloadable font support. It also fully supports all NPAPI plugins (e.g. Java, Unity web player, Media plugins, Authentication plugins). Further details can be found on the features page. https://basilisk-browser.org/

Spent weeks about a year ago trying to troubleshoot why it doesn't work. Never did make any headway. I think my versions of the browsers are just too old. Once Flash is gone, I may have to finally get off my lazy rear end and update to the latest Slackware so I'll get the newer version of FF. I used to like Chromium a bit, but something happened a year or so ago and no versions since then will work on my Slack. I get segmentation errors. Spent too much of my life trying to t-shoot that one, too. I'm just too lazy in my old age. I just want carp to work. ;) 15 minutes ago, securitybreach said: https://html5test.com/ Total for my FF - 444, however... V.T. Eric Layton
This is probably a problem with my old Slackware version, not the browsers.

Considering how long Slackware releases updates, you should definitely update to the latest version.
V.T. Eric Layton
Well, I'm running 14.1, but 14.2 has been out for a couple years already. I was kinda' holding out for 15, but that may be longer away than I can wait. One day soon, I'll get motivated and upgrade 14.1. If Flash dies, I'll have to... can't live without YouTube, you know. :)
V.T. Eric Layton
That's interesting. Adobe's most recent Flash update (...293) would not work on my system. I had to revert to 32.0.0.270. Oh well...
sunrat
How old is your browser? You know you can download the latest Firefox tarball and just run it directly from a folder in your HOME. I just installed 32.0.0.293 by downloading the npapi tarball and moving libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla/plugins/ , seems to work ok. It's getting harder to find sites that use Flash these days to even test it! Thank ${deity}. Score from that htmltest site is 508/555, FF70.0.

You know you can download the latest Firefox tarball and just run it directly from a folder in your HOME. It's FF 45.9.0 ESR... and NO, newest won't work on my older Slackware: wrong version of GTK and numerous libs that aren't up-to-par. I would end up in Dependency Heck. Been there, tried that before. And that was with V52. FF has changed a helluva lot since I tried that trick back in 2017. I'll just have to face up to the fact that my ol' Slack 14.1 needs to be upgraded. I can kill Pulse Audio in 14.2 and stick with ALSA, but newer FF won't have sound, so... I guess once I upgrade, I'll just have to say good bye to ALSA. I'll miss it. I really didn't like P-Audio the short time I tested it when I first built this system. Yes, originally, I installed Slack 14.2 on this machine, but dumped it because of P-Audio. I had forgotten all about the notification that FF had posted about newer FF only working with P-Audio. I recovered my 14.1 installation from a mirrored disk and that's where I've been ever since... living in the past. 2 hours ago, sunrat said: I just installed 32.0.0.293 by downloading the npapi tarball and moving libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla/plugins/ , seems to work ok. Unfortunately, Flash Test sites did not recognize the newest version when I did that. Stated: "No Flash detected." Getting harder to find sites with Flash? You don't surf porn, huh? HA! Just kidding. ;)
securitybreach
Just update it man!! You're more than capable of it. Backup your configs, reinstall and restore configs. I'm sure that there is an easy way to pack up your package list either. Then you can easily reinstall
V.T. Eric Layton
*sigh* Just lazy. Don't want to spend an entire day sitting at this desk and gnashing teeth.
sunrat
Don't fear the PulseAudio. I hated it at first and purged it whenever I could, but it's way better now and I appreciate what it does. Makes a few things much easier actually. 1
