It even has an advanced persistence utility which will set up a USB flash drive to retain all you changes and data. You can use that every day instead of installing to HD. And MX-19 is out now! I have it installed and it's quite good. Got a glowing review at DistroWatch - https://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20191104#mx PPS. MX has Opera in the MX Package Installer. I installed MX-19 to a usb on Sunday with the intention of keeping it as my backup get me out of trouble tool. The persistence set up is very easy and most useful and am impressed with MX's latest offering.Have set it up to run from ram and only tried it on my ToughBook which has 4 GB of memory,an older ssd, and an older cpu " Intel Core2 Duo T7300" ,it runs pretty sweetly if a tad sedately. I bet it flies along on my main rig. Looks to be an even better offering from the MX team than the 18 version which was bomb proof in my experience. P.S. apologies for the hijack. Cluttermagnet
Thanks for all the suggestions- but we seem to have gotten blown off course somewhere. I know how to launch opera from a Terminal window. What I'm trying to figure out here is how to add a launcher icon to my Menu/Internet. I asked a question above regarding what specific address syntax could be added into the Menu. Eric had previously given me enough info on how to do a custom launcher. All I'm lacking is the exact syntax now. I suppose I can eventually figure it out on my own... Thanks, Clutter Quote Eric- I see a file called opera under /usr/bin Next question- what is the exact syntax needed to point to this? I can imagine: clutter/usr/bin/opera also just /usr/bin/opera and perhaps a few others... so which would be 'letter perfect'?
securitybreach
It will most likely be /usr/bin/opera but you can easily find out by opening a terminal and typing: which opera Like for instance:
Cluttermagnet
Thanks, Josh! I'll play with this shortly. In the middle of making myself a meal. Some warmed over Indian fare... Clutter P.S. these sorts of little problems tend to resolve easily, I'm confident that is the sort we're dealing with here...
Cluttermagnet
...and the answer is... (drum roll) /usr/bin/opera Thanks, Josh!

sunrat
To summarise my last post which seems to have been misunderstood, if you can launch it from terminal with just "opera" you should be able to put just "opera" in your menu entry. /usr/bin/opera will work anyway so job done!

No problems, mate! All the help is appreciated. I'm still mulling over one additional oddity I have encountered. When I went to try and make a launcher, I encountered an icon for opera already 'in there' and checked with a + as well. It still does not, however, show up in my actual Menu, only in the Edit Menu environment. That's a little confusing and unexpected... As an experiment, there was one unchecked software in there so I checked it. It immediately started showing up in my menu (Iced Tea Java Web Start). So I know the idea of checking/unchecking is basically working, But NOT for Opera, for some reason. Weird... Clutter
V.T. Eric Layton
Wish I knew more about the current Linux Mint interface, David, but I haven't had LM on any of my systems in years. Making a panel or taskbar shortcut should be pretty easy, though, I would think. What Desktop Manager does LM use these days? Gnome?

securitybreach
They offer Cinnamon, Mate and XFCE.
V.T. Eric Layton
Well, with Xfce, you just RIGHT click on a blank panel spot and choose Panel > Preferences > Item tab... then create your new launcher. Easy-peasy. I don't know diddly about Cinnamon or Mate these days.

Immediately took a dislike to 'mouse gestures' or whatever nonsense. I guess they were trying to create a more smart phone screen environment. Anyway, Betty and I both disliked Cinnamon so I settled on Mate. Clunky, kind of minimal, but less so than Xfce from what I remember of that one. I've been using Mate for some years now...
