wa4chq
I don't remember my first Linux book. The Cookbook wasn't, that came a little later. Whatever it was it probably came from the discount bin at CompUSA and I'm sure it was as fat as a NYC phonebook!

wa4chq
"Friends don't let friends read and drive." It's really amazing how many people I've seen driving and actually are reading! And I don't mean texting...which in it's self is bad...I mean reading a mag or a newspaper!

wa4chq
yep....back to books, I'm looking forward to finding what I still have in storage as far as Linux books go...on the boat I have one, and it's on Slackware but it's a bit dated.
ebrke
Only thing I still have around is O'Reilly's Running Linux. I think there's also a book on unix shell scripting around somewhere, but I haven't really had much use for that since I stopped IT work back in 2008! On driving while reading, I can only be glad that my commuting days are over (2 hour-plus round trip, almost all on interstate). I saw some weird stuff, but that's a new low.
abarbarian
I do have several more penguin books. Like the Arch helper from 2009 or the slackware guide for v 12.0 but have never found time to read them.
V.T. Eric Layton
The fellow who wrote the SlackBook seems to have fallen off the edge of the earth. There was talk a couple years ago on LinuxQ.org about firing that project up again. The original author was involved in the conversation, but my guess is Real Life® got in the way.

V.T. Eric Layton
Meh... Who would read it anyway? There's only about 137 people still using Slackware in the world and most of them know all they need to know about the OS.
securitybreach
Perhaps a new Slackware user.

Intrigued by the thought of a new Slackware screenshot, I Googled and found only this one on the first page of results, https://mastodon.xyz/@claudiom/102464133058596401

securitybreach
Oh, it's not around anymore: Final Release: 1.2.11 (November 16, 2007; 11 years ago) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMMS I get that it works but its 11 years old for pete's sake. Surely there could be a security issue with running something that old.
V.T. Eric Layton
I had a nice custom wallpaper set up in my Slackware last week. Unfortunately, it's not family friendly. It's not pornographic, but nudity (artfully done) is involved. Click to view.
