our world is nearly dead

imagine this - my grandparents saw

their outhouse cleaned by a guy driving a two-horse wagon

the invention of, and in many cases, the productive use of:

ubiquitous, operator-less phone service

television, color telvision

cars & trucks

piston powered planes

disease control and eradication

nuclear weapons

nuclear power

jet powered airplanes

rocket powered planes

dogs, monkeys and men in orbit

men going to the moon (and unlike today's mars fantasy, returning alive)

supersonic transport (yes, it was highly profitable)

a jet that routinely flies at mach 3 (some say 5) (the engine for that appeared in 1958, nat geo published pix in 1962)

and then 1970 came along and almost all inventiveness stopped

o, sure, the pc. fine. progress for even that has come to a grinding halt.

the internet, really? try to find something you need using google. the only thing you can find is something lots of people want to write about.

today's inventions are crap like facebook, or the nsa's ability to collect all your phone calls and mail. pffft.

we can't even build a supersonic transport, allow nuclear power, or believe mankind is worth more than trees or birds.

water or food, anyone?

yup, the world has turned into a grey, lukewarm blob of... slime.

I know why the wealthy do not want to live in *poor * areas.. It's because they cannot stand that little nagging monkey in their heads that keeps on saying .'

"" this is wrong ""

Whoa there guys . You really have no concept of how rich you are . True wealth is not having piles of money or property. It's how you feel inside. How you look at yourself in the mirror. The little everyday things you do that assist others.

It's not taking from the ?poor? It shows in the way you all help on here.

That is true wealth.

Money is only numbers on paper. What you do with it shows your true worth .

I'm not saying one should be poor . What I am saying is there is way too much avarice in the world we live in . With enough to get by and a tiny bit over for that rainy day . Might mean the projects for feeding the poor and needy and aged and infirm would succeed. Daz all .

I'm not gonna win am I

meanwhile, the worker monkeys are looking at the a55-wholes of the manager monkeys

I've been thinking about the difference in the way our societies work (or don't) Around Western Europe if you lose your job or become unable to work for whatever reason ,There is a fallback position and one will not starve. There must be something similar in the US. But to hear of sick people pushed back out of hospital because of no Med Ins. And other hardships endured by the unwealthy .That gives me pause for thought . Living like this is bound to get folks on the prod for more and more cash .So who better to cream the fat off the top than the monkeys on the top of the tree. Then it becomes an addiction .

It's hard to express in non political terms what I mean . So :bangin: I give up .For now.

Unemployment insurance is the U.S. equivalent. There's a lot of caveats with it--if it's "your fault" you lost your job, you generally get nothing. And unemployment pays for a limited amount of time--6 months usually. Sometimes longer when unemployment rates in your state are high, but generally very limited. And after that you're well and truly out of luck--particularly if you're an adult with no dependent children--you won't even get food stamps (assistance to purchase food). Frankly, you could quite easily starve if you don't have family/friends to fall back on. Our society's reaction is simply "get a job"--something frequently much more easily said than done.

It's been very hard over here on young families .There are over 1500 homeless children in B+B and sordid rundown hotels either with one or two parents.

Why ??? Because the elected leaders of our tiny little island saw fit to allow the bankers to foreclose on mortages in arrears .Mostly because the householders were conned into taking out loans that depended on two parents working .Then the crash came and work just vanished . So no money no home . Yet the elected saw fit to fork out vast sums to the speculators so their returns would perform. It's a bit like betting on a horse that loses but the bet pays out in full anyway .

That cash paid to bond holders would have solved the homeless problem, the health crises ( a noctogenarian was left for three days on a gurney in the corridor because there isn't enough staff to cover all the empty beds.). Employed more Garda, nurses, home carers ,teachers and still have enough left over to reduce the budget deficit a little year by year .

Bankers have pushed Greece down the Swanee .Damaged the worlds finances . Created havoc in the farEast and generally left us all with a bad taste in the mouth '

Take a look around you . The mess is every where. A Ferrarri wont feed anyone ,but the cost of one would be plenty to set up a small village with water power and sanitation . And may even be sufficient to help the villagers become self sufficient .

I almost despair I really do

i heard a man recite his story on npr:

he was a furniture and cabinet maker in new york city

he was beat and stabbed nearly to death by 5 gang initiates

recovering (barely) in the hospital, barely alive, his nurse came to his ICU room

and what insurance do you have, quoth she.

why none, he replied

still hooked up to numerous IVs, the nurse came back in minutes later

o, look how well you are doing!

we're discharging you and sending you home!

of course, not able to move, much less work, he lost his apartment, and had it not been for friends, he'd've lost his live

but wait! there's more!

if you are a whore and have 5 children, you get $1500 / month, cash! + free free free housing! grocery carts full of food! access to education! wheeee

if you're a heroin addict, you get all the drugs you want, free needles, free free free! + food + housing!!! wheeee

but god help you if you are an unemployed man trying to find work!

folks, it is over!

Some people make bad choices and others find themselves in bad situations. Some have bad things happen out of their control. They all deserve help in times of need.

birth defects due to drugs and/or liquor, 8-tuplets due to fertility pills (no screaming eagle shot, what do you think fertility pills do, goofball????) free internet for the masses, free cell phones, free college, free healthcare

i cannot pay for it all, neither can obama, trump, clinton, or the 100 richest men in the world. no nation can, neither can the world.

You obviously don't understand how rich the 100 richest people in the world are. They could pay to fix everything. The world's 62 richest people have more wealth than the poorer half of the world's population.

We live in an age of great cynicism. Folks who in different times

would be more 'neighborly', more caring, are instead more like

"what's in it for me?". The greed and recklessness at the top are

stunning, unseemly- I cannot find words to fit it. And I do feel the

cynicism infecting me...makes things look a lot more 'hopeless'

than they really are...
