Cluttermagnet Posted August 4, 2015 Share Posted August 4, 2015 (edited) Hi, All- I seem to have this one specific computer, Betty's current laptop, which recently started a weird behavior that I'm pretty sure is unique to that one box. It's a Lenovo T420. I used to be able to read my webmail no problem from GoDaddy (secureserver.net). Recently, it started returning the identical login page that I start from- the one where you enter an ID and password. I tried erasing all cookies for either GoDaddy or secureserver.net. No joy. I do seem to be able to access my webmail no problem using another computer here. I would have to try several others to be sure, but I'm already pretty sure this weirdness is unique to this laptop. Comments or suggestions? Thanks, Clutter P.S. This lappie seems in every other way normal- it surfs the net and I can read my other email venues just fine. The problem is unique to logging onto secureserver.net from this one computer. P.P.S. If it could be a factor, I have a huge number of open tabs at any given time. It varies from computer to computer, but I do tend to keep tabs open for months on end. On this box, an unusually large number of open tabs, probably around a hundred or so. Yeah, I know, very bad, sloppy browser use- but if they didn't want me to do this, they shouldn't have given me the capability. I seem to be using tabs somewhat like bookmarks. Heh! Pete! Posted August 4, 2015 Share Posted August 4, 2015 Is it possible that your security software and/or plug-ins, on the other computers have this site "white listed", and this computer does not. When I was running Win 98, way past it's "end of life" I had everything in "paranoid mode". On sites where I needed scripting, I had to white list them in, noscript, ZoneAlarm, and list them as a "trusted site" in internet options. I install it on every machine and would feel naked and vulnerable without it. No problem dealing with the annoyances that it sometimes causes. The alternative is potentially much worse. The only unallowed item I found was somethiong to do with google tags or some such. Temporarily enabling that one made no difference. Good suggestion, but I racked my brain unsuccessfully trying to find any 'white list' in my FF. Must be there but I dunno where. Oh, and FWIW this machine used to do the affected webmail just fine, no hiccups. Something has changed. Maybe related to one of the frequent updates offered by Linux Mint (debian), which I always trust and accept. Or maybe somehow related to a change in NoScript? They hand me updates fairly often, I usually accept them sooner rather than later... P.S. I did check NoScript on a hunch, easily found a whitelist- secureserver.net was already in there. I mean we are talking about computers which were formerly reliably accessing the ISP's email no problem, then they started not working. Only thing I can think of is they made some change to Firefox and will eventually get enough complaints to fix it. I generally always accept updates that Linux Mint offers me as and when they come out. Oh, BTW I now have two unrelated computers doing this, and several others that DO NOT do this. I'm pretty sure all would have the latest FF. That's what's confusing me. You know what else is confusing me? They have tinkered and changed FF to the point where I don't even know how to find out what version of FF I am running! Yikes! Where have they hidden that? The private window technique works, so I'll just keep doing that for now. I hate it when they 'improve' FF to the point where I can't find things any more. Just for example, they have disabled CTRL+F and you have to figure out to go to the stupid menu and click on that and then click on Find. Soooooo stupid to do things like that... zlim Posted October 18, 2015 Share Posted October 18, 2015 If you don't have a menu bar showing with File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools and Help then my directions make no sense. You used to be able to right click a blank space and select Menu bar to get the headings to show. I'm not sure if this works in the newest version. Try it and let me know if it works. If not, click on the "hamburger" on the right and then select Help and about.
