Guest LilBambi
Province of New Jersey. It was granted as a colony to Sir George Carteret and John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton. At this time, it was named after the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey, Carteret's birthplace. Jersey Airport greets travellers with "Welcome to Jersey" sign in Jèrriais. Guest LilBambi
Oh, and Jersey clothing was named for that Jersey Island's main knitting business. (A jersey is an item of knitted clothing, traditionally in wool or cotton, with sleeves, worn as a pullover, as it does not open at the front, unlike a cardigan. It is usually close-fitting and machine knitted in contrast to a guernsey that is more often hand knit with a thicker yarn. The word is usually used interchangeably with sweater.) Guest LilBambi
Actually, with my bandwidth limitations, I don't watch youtube unless I know exactly what it is about, and how long the youtube video is. Can't afford to just watch them willy nilly sadly... So, Jersey Girls song takes on a whole new meaning after reading about how the name came about.
