crp
http://epic.org/foia/EPICvDHS-SOP303-Opinion.pdf Forgot the nonsense of their claiming at first to not be able to find the protocols, i'm skeptical they could really do it. Just for how they plan to do it would make for interesting reading. Don't think this order would require that though, just how they make the decision to do it. V.T. Eric Layton
Unfortunately, that document is primarily about FOIA allowances and procedures. I didn't see much in there about the actual topic of this thread. I share your skepticism regarding their ability to actually shut down all wireless connections. The only way I can see that being done is to transmit a powerful jamming signal in all cities and towns that would disable wifi G and N signals. I doubt that's very practical. Does the Gov have backdoor access to wireless routers used in this country? I doubt that, too.

securitybreach
Does the Gov have backdoor access to wireless routers used in this country? I doubt that, too. They do. Plus it has came to light that they are intercepting shipments to install backdoors in electronics: http://www.neowin.ne...install-spyware http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/the-nsa-uses-powerful-toolbox-in-effort-to-spy-on-global-networks-a-940969.html

Have you heard of the internet kill switch that has been in the news lately: http://www.washingto...rnet-kill-swit/ They used to call me paranoid, now I laugh at how gullible they are

V.T. Eric Layton
even if true, but how would they hit them all? Broadcast kill code via TCP/IP.... no problem at all, since the Gov controls all the ISPs and Core Routers. Have you heard of the internet kill switch that has been in the news lately: http://www.washingto...rnet-kill-swit/ If they killed the Internet, they'd be doing us all a favor. We could once again live our lives, interact with family/friends live in real time, get stuff done around the home, enjoy the great outdoors, etc. This doesn't include the 100s of 1000s of jobs that NO INTERNET would create... or should I say "recreate".
securitybreach
Yup and then there would be no news and they would control us even more.......
abarbarian
Yup and then there would be no news and they would control us even more....... After a few years of withdrawal you would not even notice as you would only have local news and tales from travellers. You don't miss what you don't know about. V.T. Eric Layton
We once had real news back before the Internet. Once $$$ started being the prime directive of broadcast companies and newspapers, that was the end of that.

You don't miss what you don't know about. You're right about that. It would make for a slower and more social life. Folks would actually talk to each other again. Families would have meals together and do other things like shopping, visiting, etc. I think we should pass a law that reverts the world back to the early 1900s... a quieter, simpler time. Heck, maybe even the 1800s.
zlim
Heck, maybe even the 1800s.No way! I don't want to have to use an outhouse in this weather. In July, you'd want your air conditioning. I don't know where I'd put the horse - my mode of transportation to the market to buy food daily because without a freezer, I could not stock up on meat. V.T. Eric Layton
Life would be different, indeed. However, without all those modern conveniences, we'd be stronger, wiser, more efficient, and possibly more appreciative of our daily bread. Flush toilets would be nice, though. Let's just go back to 1950, then.
abarbarian
because without a freezer, I could not stock up on meat. No need for a freezer. You just need a some of these and a set of these Flush toilets would be nice, though. Let's just go back to 1950, then. The Romans had flush toilets. Guest LilBambi
Well, before the Internet, news was such a worthwhile financial venture that CNN actually did an entire channel on Cable for news. News has always been financially lucrative (via advertisers). And the more catastrophic the news the better for making money....
