Arch Linux users can safely upgrade their healthy installations to the brand-new Linux kernel 3.10 today. The first ISO images of Arch Linux with Linux kernel 3.10 on-board will be published next Thursday, on August 1, 2013. We are the champions...................of the ..................world. Quote
securitybreach Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Neat BTW I am already running 3.10.3-1: comhack@Cerberus ~ % uname -r3.10.3-1-ck Quote
securitybreach Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Arch Linux is a stable distro? I have never had it crash yet I have screwed it up myself in the past but it was a user issue, not Arch Bugs come and go with packages but I have not ran into an issue specifically with Arch in over 7 years (that I can remember anyway). Missed the winkie guy, huh? I was just stirring doo-doo. Seeing if anyone would rise to the bait. Are there unstable distros? Ummm... actually, I can't think of any off the top of my head. 1 Quote
burninbush Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 http://news.softpedi...10-371457.shtml We are the champions...................of the ..................world. So what does it mean, "stable linux kernel packages" ? FWIW, this older Porteus that I'm running right now seems to be using a 3.7.8 kernel. Quote
V.T. Eric Layton Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 I'm running a 3.2.45 kernel in Slackware. Works great. What's all the big deal about using a bleeding edge kernel? Quote
securitybreach Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 So what does it mean, "stable linux kernel packages" ? Stable release as in the latest stable release from https://www.kernel.org/ Quote
tforsman Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Why use stable, when logterm is "rocksolid" I don't do much on my laptop that force me to use newer kernel. Rather having a kernel that's been maintained for a "looong" time Usually loved to have the latest all the time, but starting to wonder why do I need it.......... Quote
abarbarian Posted July 28, 2013 Author Posted July 28, 2013 Usually loved to have the latest all the time, but starting to wonder why do I need it.......... Because it is there ! Same reason folk climb mountains. Quote

Stable has been tried/tested with beta and rc versions. That and if Linus signed off on it, it is good enough for me. Also, going by your signature, I thought you would of been more adept to newer stuff Quote
tforsman Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Also, going by your signature, I thought you would of been more adept to newer stuff well............need to change signature now Love the latest applications though following probably 80 softwares on rss feeds and updates as soon I see any changes hehehe. But kernel and desktop environment feels like i want older but tested alot..... 1 Quote
