google about to majorly disrupt part of the internet sphere

Recommended Posts

I am surprised this did not get more, major attention.

Google sent notice to all its Blogger's tagged as adult that if there are any ads that are adult, the Blogger will be scrubbed.

Note that they are not talking about just porn but adult. So sex education blogs, art blogs that feature nudes , etc are effected. Some of these Blogs were not registered as adult (ie: romance story reviewers) by the blogger but tagged as such by Google. Also there is no firm definition of what is adult for either a Blog or an ad.

If you or someone you know if affected http://wiki.dreamhost.com/WordPress#Blogger might be a good place to start.

AdBlock or AdBlock Plus?

Ah, nevermind:

"Adblock Plus has announced that search ads and sponsored results on Google and AdSense partner websites search for" Acceptable Ads "list are suitable. This list already includes a number of AdSense for search partners, as well as ads on Amazon, Reddit and Yandex."

You don't have to use their List Subscriptions. There are many available.

Choose a different one from here? That should take care of it, right? This is likely being done with the EasyList/Fanboy, which is the default (English). Hmmm, used to, wait. Hmmm, maybe not.

Below the Language ones is the Miscellaneous lists; like Malware Domains, etc.

You can also modify the whitelist yourself in Adblock Plus Preferences. I don't see where you can do this. The must have changed it.

I run EasyList and Fanboi's List. There is an option in Preferences that says, "Allow some non-intrusive advertising." Make sure that's UNCHECKED. This is the Google (and others) whitelist.

Here is that list: https://easylist-dow...eptionrules.txt

Remember Google's motto... Do mo' weevil. ;)

Do you mean AdblockPlus -> FilterPreferences -> CustomFilters ?

No. The Custom Filters tab is for your own whitelists, not the built-in one. You can (supposedly) totally disable their built-in list by unchecking the box I mention above. I don't see any kind of ads, so it must be working. ;)

that reminds me ...

I have noScript and Ghostery installed on my browsers. When ever i use a public access or someone elses pc, I am just shocked on how much ads and pop-ups there are at web based email sites and magazine sites.

Thanks Eric. I didn't realize they were doing that. I unclicked the 'Allow some non-intrusive advertising' on the main filter list tab (at the bottom).

Of course, if you are using Chrome, you actually have to go into the Tools, Extensions, and under AdBlock Plus, next to 'Allow in incognito', there is a link for Options. Clicked that and the first tab is the main filter list tab.

Here's the link to more information on 'acceptable ads'.

Yeah... I know what you mean. I haven't seen ads or popups in my browsers in years and years. When I turn all my blockers off and load a page I normally visit, I'm SHOCKED by all the carp blinking and flashing and popping up. How to people use the Internet with all this going on? :(

With that also, in May, Fanboy's list was merged with Easy Privacy. https://easylist.adb...h-fanboy-s-list

Hmm... I've never had any issues and I've been doing it like that for a long time. I wonder what the reasoning is behind that?

I was looking earlier when I was unchecking in the earlier post, and mine is the combined Easylist and FanBoy's list.

They're no more evil than any other greedy, money-grubbing corporation. Not that I have anything against greed or money-grubbing. I'm just jealous... that's all. ;)

Besides, Google will never control the Internet. It's already controlled by Cisco.

Cisco does not go around paying off Adblock Developers. Cisco mainly deals with the hardware part of The Net, unlike evil Google they are more or less neural. A search engine should not guide to their choices when you are the one searching. I now have everything blocked from Google.

Don't worry, even Bing uses Google:

Since Yahoo uses Bing, your still using google.

Also, do not forget about the google bot that scours every website including this one.

It is not The Evil Google. The NSA can track anything that you put on the Net. I said in another post that they can have all of my Hard Drives. I have nothing to hide. The Government does not scare me but companies like Google do. Just look at Google Glass?? Ted Kazinski (SP) AKA The letter Bomber was sort of correct when he wrote that the Net will destroy everything. His methods were a tad on the Nutter side but I would have to agree with him. When I was a kid I went outside and played sports, went fishing etc. I did not sit in front of an Xbox playing violent games. People actual talked to one another and not through FB or other nonsensical tools. There were no school shootings. No one lost their job due to a stupid post on FB. This world is just going to get worse. Just look at your sig.

I agree that things are a lot worse but my point being, google is not the only one as all of the tech companies do things like this. As far as the government, I have known that they monitor everything long before Assange and Snowden stepped up. You say that you do not fear the government but you fear the corporations, well who do you think finances the politicians? If you look at the public records of which companies contribute to which politicians, you will notice that most of the time the same groups finance both sides of the coin. Our government has long been bought and paid for by private organizations/companies.

Heck Google and Microsoft were the top contributors to Obama's 2012 run:

President Obama's campaign is getting financial help from people associated with two big tech firms: Microsoft and Google.

Following the University of California, those companies were listed as the second and third top contributors to his re-election campaign by OpenSecrets.org, followed by the lawfirm of DLA Piper and Harvard University.

Can we please not refer to the President this way? Let's have some respect and rise above name calling.

I absolutely love DuckDuckGo but I also love StartPage/ixquick.

Startpage/ixquick were actually around before DuckDuckGo.

More info about DuckDuckGo:

Web address: duckduckgo.com

Commercial? Yes

Type of site search engine

Registration None

Owner DuckDuckGo, Inc.

Created by Gabriel Weinberg

Launched September 25, 2008

DuckDuckGo is an Internet search engine that uses information from many sources, such as crowdsourced websites like Wikipedia and from partnerships with other search engines like Yandex, Yahoo!, Bing and WolframAlpha to obtain its results.[2] The search engine policy says that it protects privacy, and does not record user information.[3] Because users are not profiled, the "filter bubble" can be avoided, with all users being shown the same search results for a given search term.

The company is based in Paoli, Pennsylvania, United States in Greater Philadelphia.[4] The company name originates from the children's game duck, duck, goose.[5]

Some of the code of DuckDuckGo is free software distributed at GitHub under the Perl 5 license.[6]

Here is more info about Startpage/ixquick:

Type of site Search engine

Ixquick is a metasearch engine based in New York and the Netherlands.[2] Founded by David Bodnick in 1998, Ixquick is owned by Dutch company, Surfboard Holding BV, which acquired the internet company in 2000.[3]

Ixquick also provides the stand-alone proxy service, Ixquick Proxy, which has also been incorporated into both its Ixquick and Startpage search engines allowing users the option to open all search results via proxy.

Ixquick is developing a privacy-conscious email service.

Thanks Adam. I should have picked up on that too.

Yes, we do not need name calling of fellow Highlanders or the President.

I didn't see that. However, in my opinion, whether I like the gentleman or not, I don't believe the President of this country should be referred to in any way other than Mr. President or Mr. Obama. Disrespect is the gateway to hate. Hate is not a constructive thing in this world.

The proper way to address the POTUS is Mr President not Mr. Obama. I was not the first person here to refer to him as I did. I also cannot believe that you or anyone else would make a Big to do about what he was called. Just look back 10 years or so and see how Former President Bush was treated? Have a great day.
