Still in a positive downward spiral.

Yesterday I ran -Syu and 2 packages were updated for a savings of .10 MiB.

Today, 5 packages and .59 MiB

That's for the desktop.

Laptop scheduled for tomorrow.

Nowhere near as dramatic as your result abarbarian, but still a welcome sign of progress and excellence by the developers.

There was a bugaboo on my Arch system that would cause it to show everything as current and updated when I would run #pacman -Syu or #yaourt -Syua. If I remember correctly, I had to regenerate a new mirrors list and then run rankmirrors again to get it to properly update. Hopefully, you're not having this issue, abarbarian.

That is why it is good to run rankmirrors against the mirrorlist.pacnew file if you get a pacman-mirrorlist update.

If not ArchLinux, then at least vanilla Linux developers should adopt your motto!

Alas not mine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Less_is_more

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_Mies_van_der_Rohe

Along with Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, and Frank Lloyd Wright, he is widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of modern architecture.

Mies, like many of his post-World War I contemporaries, sought to establish a new architectural style that could represent modern times just as Classical and Gothic did for their own eras. He created an influential twentieth century architectural style, stated with extreme clarity and simplicity. His mature buildings made use of modern materials such as industrial steel and plate glass to define interior spaces. He strove toward an architecture with a minimal framework of structural order balanced against the implied freedom of free-flowing open space. He called his buildings "skin and bones" architecture. He sought a rational approach that would guide the creative process of architectural design, but he was always concerned with expressing the spirit of the modern era. He is often associated with his quotation of the aphorisms, "less is more" and "God is in the details".

They are on a roll.

Here is today's update.

Well the recent update shrank my Arch thus,

# pacman -Syu --ignore filesystem,bash

Total Download Size: 0.03 MiB

Total Installed Size: 243.33 MiB

Net Upgrade Size: -5.92 MiB

# pacman -S bash

Packages (1): bash-4.2.045-4

Total Installed Size: 3.51 MiB

Net Upgrade Size: -0.10 MiB

# pacman -Su

Packages (1): filesystem-2013.05-2

Total Installed Size: 0.01 MiB

Net Upgrade Size: -0.30 MiB

At this rate they will have to adopt KISS for naming Arch and call it A and Linux to L giving us AL as the new name. :whistling:

An they keep shrinking,

Packages (2): efl-git-1.7.99.22333.c1cba92-1

efl-git-debug-1.7.99.22333.c1cba92-1

Total Installed Size: 31.15 MiB

Net Upgrade Size: -0.85 MiB

I shrank my Arch right off my hard drive a while back. ;)

Packages (1): ifplugd-0.28-14

Total Download Size: 0.02 MiB
Total Installed Size: 0.05 MiB
Net Upgrade Size: -0.07 MiB

This one has me puzzled. How can the Net Upgrade Size be -0.07Mib when the Installed Size is only 0.05Mib :hmm:

If the programs installed size is 0.05Mib and the Net Upgrade Size is -0.07Mib then the program is using no space whatever and has nicked -0.02Mib of some other programs. Spooky stuff. Almost like the Tardis. Could Judd Vinet be a real time lord ?

The total installed size is the new installed size after the savings (Net Upgrade Size: -0.07 MiB) due to the package being smaller.

Did anyone actually click on that -1 button in my post above. ;)

Don't you know it's a bad habit to click on every random item on web pages?
