testing follow forum notification

Just testing the follow forum notification feature.

Was not following any forum.

 

No forums listed in my settings as being followed

but a couple of forums were indicating that I

was following them.

 

Clicked on the link to not follow the forums

and came here to test.

 

I clicked on the follow forum link and posted

this test message to see if I get a notification.

 

Also need to check if the forum is listed in my

settings as being followed.

Went to see if they were listed in the settings as

being followed. I did not see them listed.

 

Then I noticed they are listed in forums under "by section"

they are not listed in forums under "by content".

 

Not just testing to see if I get any notifications.

Probably because I'm the one doing the replying.

No need to notify me of my own replies.

 

Could someone post a quick reply just

so I can see if I get a notification?

Although I did not get a notification or email message.

 

edit: I did click the option to follow this topic but

right now when I went back in to double check the setting

it's not set.

 

I am following this forum and this topic.

 

I am seeing a notification when a new topic

is posted in a forum I am following.

 

These are the settings I am testing:

Notification method to use for replies to followed topics

Notification method to use for topics in followed forums

 

both are set to notify with a notification and an email message.

double checked to make sure the follow option is set correctly.

 

edit: still no notification when I reply.

 

Could someone post another simple quick reply?

I got a notification and email message about this message.

Odd that the email message had more information attached

which I do not see in the actual post.

 

I delete deleted messages when exiting thunderbird so I can

not go back and verify but I do recall something like

the following being mentioned in the email message:

 

Something having to do with getting a notification

for every reply vs one per board visit.

 

Does that ring bell Eric?

I was going to ask for clarification on the once per board visit.

Message got deleted when I exited thunderbird.

I figured the same info would also be in the notification.

 

But are you certain? :ermm:

I did get a notification. :)

 

I think my problem might have been cookie related.

 

The system was showing me as following some boards which I was not.

 

When I tried to actually follow some boards I was not getting

any notifications. When I went in to see what the board software

thought I was following I was not seeing anything in the list.

 

That was a mistake on my part as I was looking under "by content"

vs "by type".

 

I then tried to follow a thread.

Asked someone to post a quick reply to see if I would

get a notification and I did not.

 

Went back into the settings only to see that the

thread I had configured to follow was not listed.

 

So I clicked through the options to follow the thread again...

went into the settings to make sure the setting stuck...

and asked for someone to again post a quick replay to test again.

 

This time the notification came through.

AO, at the top right of the board page you'll see a little icon just to the left of your user name. Click on that and you can set any and all notification preferences for all board events.

 

... Or, maybe you had already found that, huh? :)

Yep, I found that. And my bad again.

 

When I got the most recent email notification I noticed the same text from the last message.

 

If you have configured in your control panel to receive immediate topic reply notifications, you may receive an email for each reply made to this topic. Otherwise, only 1 email is sent per board visit for each subscribed topic. This is to limit the amount of mail that is sent to your inbox.

 

I thought the above text was part of your message.

 

As you can see...I do not use notifications.

I only looked into them when I noticed a couple of boards showing an "unfollow" option (instead of a "follow'" option) when as far as I know I had not specifically clicked on "follow".

I don't use Notifications at boards like this one that I frequent daily. Instead, I just click on the View New Content link when I arrive and from there I can see all the threads that I'm following and the new ones that I haven't looked at yet.

 

On boards that I don't frequent too often, I use Notifications... just in case someone has replied to something I posted a while back. I don't want anyone to think I'm ignoring them. :)
