HP Slate 8 Tablet Thinner Than iPad, Runs Windows 8 - eWeek

 

...The latest “leak” concerns Hewlett-Packard’s Slate 8 tablet, an image and info of which were posted on the tech site Neowin. The iPad challenger will reportedly be thinner than Apple’s tablet, boast a 10.1-inch screen and offer battery life of 8 to 10 hours. Windows 8 will run on both x86 and ARM processors, and will be supported on PCs and tablets.

Neowin has posted an alleged product rendering of the rumored HP tablet, along with some details about the device. The Slate 8 will reportedly be an x86-based machine with a 10.1-inch display, eight to 10 hours of battery life, and a frame that measures 0.36 inches thick--slightly thinner than Apple's new iPad.

It does say that it will be x86 processor, not ARM, so it is very likely some sibling of Atom as we know it.

Could be one of the newer ones too? Ivy Bridge with vendor lockin, errrr, security built in?

Well, if it runs windows 8, HP will likely enable secure boot in order to be able to put the windows 8 sticker on it. No other OSs will boot on it.......

Right... But it should give the user the ability to turn that off in the bios. But sadly no one will be surprised if they don't on the tablets...sigh...

 

They better not try to pull that on desktops, laptops, netbooks.
