I don't have my virtual machine running with it right now, or a native version of it. It's just on the disc right now I am testing it with Mac and Windows XP and I will be able to test it with Debian too. But still need to get my VirtualBox running my Windows 7 Ultimate before I can test it on that too. Would want to test with as many as possible before doing a review. Also, only just started using it on more than just my Mac and iOS. Trying out Sync, scheduling etc. Might be able to do so after I have given it a thorough workout. I have a folder with a bunch of configs, information, etc for a new blog post but I have been so busy with work and the new location(work moved), I have not had very much free time. Steve and Leo were talking about the various cloud backup/sync/storage solutions out there. Leo's been using SpiderOak now for about a year. He uses it to sync his documents folder between PCs. Steve Gibson has not used it extensively yet, but he has been talking with the engineers at the company, and so far he likes what he hears and what he has been reading on their website. I learned a new acronym today- TNO- which means "Trust No One." This concept I like a lot because *my* data is encrypted for storage on the server, encrypted again in transit, and remains on the server encrypted. No one can access the data without the encryption key. If I lose the key, my backup is useless. Some services give you the option to have them manage your encryption key, but SpiderOak does not even have the capability to do so built into the software. While the data is on the server, no one can access it without the key. You are the only one who has that... Did anyone know that they are also building and working on open source software? They have been releasing their libraries to the OSS community. https://spideroak.com/code What other cloud service does that? Also, it is not a huge company. 20 employees, located around the globe. https://spideroak.com/about/ I like this company! 100GB for ten bucks a month is not the cheapest out there, but some of the features really make SpiderOak stand out. That's even better in my book. I have been using the 2GB for free and testing it out as I noted earlier. Would like to see how it works for you between OSes. I doubt it is searchable to the public, but the mere fct that our data is moving around Google's services so much.... well, that just doesn't seem like a good idea. Besides- what is Google doing with your information? Building an ever expanding profile of your history, habits, etc. Spider Oak doesn't even know about my William Shatner photo collection, so they would never attempt to show me ads trying to sell me a toupee. Not to mention with Spider Oak, you are the customer, not the product. I see the free 2GB of storage available as a way to demo the service.
