willij
Hello:I just got Knoppix 3.2 and need to know how to get my modem and internet connection to work in it? I have Windows XP Home and have dial-up. I am not familiar with linux so you might have to provide steps. Thanks.
GolfProRM
Quote from onurb:I have to warn you that most internal-modems (software-modems aka winmodems) don't work under Linux !However most hardware-modems ( external ) do work fine under Linux. So I case you have an internal PCI modem, try to get a good (second hand) “real†modem. Check the site: http://www.linmodems.org/ for supported modems. If you have a win-modem you probably won't get it to work... This is the first thing to take into consideration... For other tips, check out the Knoppix thread found in the Linux forum... I'm sure you'll get more replies from others here shortly... this is a great board for help! Bruno
You quoted me right Ryan !http://www.linmodems.org is the place to search. The best Advice I can give, buy an external modem and see to it that "supported by Linux" is printed on the box. However they tell me that more and more software modems get drivers for Linux: PCtel, Lucent Technology and Conexant winmodem drivers have been released. I guess modem producers realise that Linux is becomming a popular OS ! :)Bruno
