The 60th Detroit AutoRama

This is the 60th Detroit AutoRama. This is different from the North American International Auto Show. These are the hot rods and customs.

My first AutoRama was the 19th annual way back in 1971. That was when I turned sweet sixteen and got interested in cars. I still feel the same excitement.

My only system of taking these pics was to try to avoid the people and because of Flickr's inability to sort there's no sequence at all. But that's ok 'cause each one is more awesome than the previous, lol. I hope you enjoy! ;)

WOW! Beautiful cars. That brings back memories. I used to love to go to car shows like this one. They don't seem to have them around here anymore, though.

Cool stuff. Thanks for sharing. I was thinking about going but had to work. Missed the boat show too. And the NAIAS. Guess I just don't like driving into Detroit.

Do you visit the concours d'elegance at Meadowbrook or St. John's too?

I can't believe I have never heard of that show. Maybe I have but didn't pay attention. Holy cow though, it looks like I missed a good one. Menacing dragsters in the company of elegance? Git Outta Here! LOL! Cackling and rumbling, roaring and growling, the pair of vintage drag racers rolls onto the brick courtyard along side the old and pristine--Cords, Duesenbergs, Auburns, Packards, Cadillacs. WOW! You can bet I'll be at St. Johns this year. Looks like I won't get to see Meadow Brook though as the show has been relocated. A shame indeed.

Check out these pics of the 2010 show, WOW!

Downtown Detroit isn't looking to bad lately, FuzzButt. I was kind of marveled how lively and clean it was. But then again I had to walk thru an alley to get to my car and the marvel was gone. Also, just a couple miles away is this.

The Duesenberg is nice. The girl needs some sun, vitamins, and a few hearty home-cooked meals, though.

The Meadowbrook show was the last one I was at. It is something to behold to be among so many very well kept and running older cars. I didn't have a camera with me that day but this July if I can get to St. Johns I'll be bringing along a charged battery, empty SD card and my Nikon D5100. St. Johns is in Plymouth so it is quite a bit easier to get to for you. I'm about 10 miles west of OU but won't mind the little extra drive to Plymouth.

Hey speaking of photography. I'm in AA all the time and try and bring my camera with me when ever I leave home. I'm really looking to warmer weather and walking around AA and in the parks. Did you know there is an automotive museum in Ypsi? http://www.ypsiautoheritage.org/ and http://www.michiganfirehousemuseum.org/ near Depot town in Ypsilanti. I'm starting to get into shooting old infrastructure around in my travels. Posted a few of a Dam I ran across in Homer (south of Albion/Marshall) on Tuesday on Flikr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/38587107@N00/...57629534246017/

Yes sir, Depot Town along with the rest of Ypsilanti (pronounced "Ipsilanti", I as in if not yip.) is my old stomping grounds. I know it very well. I've been in the old firehouse museum but not the new one. I don't believe I've ever been in the Hudson dealer's place though. I've always thought it was actually an active dealership that specializes in selling Hudsons. There were always different Hudsons parked around the place whenever I drove by. I was never in the market for a Hudson, lol. I didn't know the old boy changed to a museum. Perhaps I'll drop in the next time I'm in that area.

Nice pics of the Kzoo river. You must have been upstream of the oil spill?

Speaking of Depot Town. It's interesting to view old railroad lines with Google Earth. It explains why the landscape is often shaped in strange ways. I sometimes like to travel those old rail lines and rivers with GE.
