Teffy Posted November 21, 2003 Posted November 21, 2003 I don't know which forum(s) is appropriate for this..I am looking for ways to make computing more enjoyable – to streamline repetitive tasks and improve ergonomics. Things like the following:1. Utilities that minimize drilling down directories or menus like · Dialog Box Assistant · TheBrain· Correlate2. Dual monitors 3. Height-adjustable table for keyboard and trackball so I can sit or stand 4. Ergonomic keyboard5. Extra keypad or stick with programmable keys6. Speech recognition software for navigation of desktop and dictation of text7. Tools already present in Windows (2000)What is your experience with any of these? What other recommendations do you have? Thanks,Teffy Quote
Teffy Posted December 2, 2003 Author Posted December 2, 2003 2. Dual monitorsI bought a Matrox P750 multi-monitor card and installed it along with my current 19" Trinitron and the 15" Trinitron monitor from my old PC. I am totally lovin' having the extra desktop real estate! It is so nice to offload some of the little stuff that is nice to have up all the time, but that you end up dragging around alot to get them out of the way. Stuff like ClipMate clipboard manager contents, email util, folder contents, whatever. And it totally rocks when in something like Photoshop where there are alot of little toolbars floating around otherwise getting in the way. Maybe I'm the last to learn about multi-monitor setups, but I'm so glad I finally did! Quote
Peachy Posted December 3, 2003 Posted December 3, 2003 Teffy, glad to hear you bought the P750! Now you need a third monitor to really get the full effect of that card.Cordless mouse? Or if you get a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum you get a remote for controlling all your multimedia applications. Drawing tablet like the ones from Wacom if you are into Photoshop. If you do voice recognition, Dragon Naturally Speaking is the market leader. Combined with a cordless headset microphone you can basically free yourself from your chair. Quote
pc-tecky Posted December 3, 2003 Posted December 3, 2003 I wouldn't know about much of that stuff. Nice, but too costly for this poor for college student. :'(I think it is http://www.OfficeOrganix.com has a lot that might interest you, if you have the money. I found them looking for a nice 7 way office chair with all sorts of toys similar to one I sat in for classes at school.Computer workstation?? - nice, $$$$, but it sure does look uncomfortable, looks like the computer mixed with a motorcycle and a recliner and they just couldn't furgure out which way to go with it. You'll just love the price tag too. Just a mere $4000 after shipping and all. Get me three of those. Uhm, just how well do they work with a laptop? Another tip, don't fall asleep in this while at work if they have them at your work. Quote
