Well, I've seen this mentioned before on other boards but never thought it would happen to me! I just added a couple of 256 MB Ram chips to my HP Vectra VL6 PII D5737A. It had 3 64 MB chips in it before but I added two 256 MB ram chips and now it takes FOREVER to do things! It recognizes the 588 MB of memory on the POST but in the setup, it lists two of the banks as empty! Boot up takes a long while and running programs takes a while too. I never really paid much attention when I've seen posts on this problem before. Any ideas?Oh, also, the memory I used was for HP Vectra VL400 models (mine is a VL6) so maybe that is the problem.

Thanks! Will do. I should mention (now that I have more time) that I was curious to see if my pc would even take 256 MB chips so I tried a couple that were for the vl400 model. Much to my surprise, it took it and maybe not so much to my surprise, the pc acted sluggishly after that. I recalled reading articles about too much ram slowing a pc down but couldn't recall any details. I should also check the HP site to see if I can find the answer to how much RAM this thing can hold.

Although Crucial is not the overclockers/performance folks first choice, if they list memory for your specific model they will stand behind it 100%. Saves a lot of aggravation.

It is highly possible you need a BIOS update. Also, check out your user manual for definite amount per slot that it actually supports.

I think I may have the lastest BIOS update, tho I will check to see if anything came out in the past couple of months. Oddy, the BIOS thinks I have two 7919 MB drives, when in fact one is 12.6 GB's! Nonetheless, Windows sees them correctly and I have no problems. HP says the Vectra VL6/Series 7 pc that I have will only take three 128 MB chips so that is the route I will take. Thanks for the replies!Dale

Glad you got your answer on the memory. Always better to know what limitations and/or requirements there are. :P
