Game on Linux

The other week Steam had a sale on an awesome FPS available for Linux called Metro: Last Light that is based upon the novel Metro 2033. The game includes 6 extra addon packs plus the game for only $9.99. They still have the game bundle for $19.99 now and is worth every penny. A very good game with excellent graphics (if you have the card to power it) that is long an fun to play. A must have for a Linux gamer who likes first-person shooters:

I have been waiting on the higher end games to come out on Linux and this is one of them. B)

Great game as was 2033. My ageing AMD struggled to play 2033 so I have just bought a Phenom X4 965 for £40 of flea bay. I know it will not run at optimum with my DDR2 and AM2 mobo but I hope it will give me enough grunt to play 2033 at decent resolution. Hope it does not turn out to be a dud and I hope I can jump through the hoops needed to get it to run on my mobo.

You could get some decent wallpapers out of that game Josh, pretty much your colour scheme as well. :Smiley-IPB-400:

This is a great concept for a game and is so different to all the games out there. Well done to them for gaining the funding on Kickstarter.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/723103016/together-amna-and-saif

Together highlights the benefits that gaming can have on a relationship. It goes beyond having a conversation or doing something together. Interdependence is a key quality in a rewarding and successful relationship and Together allows you to experience and practice it in a tangible way.

You play as Amna and Saif, a mother and son. Your loved one has fallen deathly ill and the only chance of a cure lies deep within a mysterious forest. Only together can you overcome the trials of the landscape and the great beasts of the forest to find the cure in time.

Apart from the excellent concepts used for game play the developers pay attention to folk who have difficulty playing games in general.

Colors used in game mechanics were planned with the color blind in mind. Controls are kept simple to be accessible to as many people as possible. The game can be played with one hand. During the beta phase we will do everything we can to make the game playable for those with specific needs.

Well done that team I wish you every success.

Probably the best game bundle they have offered this year. Some games play on linux is why it is posted here.

https://www.humblebundle.com/?utm_source=Humble+Bundle+Newsletter&utm_campaign=9b79fdbdea-Humble_2K_Bundle&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_990b1b6399-9b79fdbdea-96436093

This bundle has a 100% chance to hit. You won't need to worry about losing your veterans today. 2K is here to save us with XCOM, BioShock and more from its killer library. Pay $1 or more for BioShock, The Darkness II and The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. If you pay more than the average price, you'll also get BioShock 2, Mafia II and Spec Ops: The Line. Those who pay $20 or more will receive all of the above, plus BioShock Infinite and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Save a few bucks for that plasmid you really wanted. If you bought all of these games separately, it'd cost you up to $209, but we're letting you name your price!

Redeem on Steam from your subterranean headquarters. Pay $1 or more to gain access to these games on Steam for Windows. Select titles are also available for Mac and Linux. Please check the full system requirements here.

No need to say would you kindly support charity. You choose where your money goes: between the developers and two vital charities, the American Red Cross and Action Against Hunger. If you like this bundle, a tip to Humble Bundle would be greatly appreciated!

An they are going to add more games too.

If you are a non Steam person put aside your dislikes and get the bundle. You will be gaming for the rest of the year. ( you know who I mean). :harhar:

Unfortunately none of those are available for linux except for XCom and that would cost you at least $20 to access that one title.

Ah. You could play them all with Steam OS though. :breakfast:

Maybe, maybe not. They do say they are not available on Linux Steam which is what SteamOS is.

Ok, maybe I was mistaken:

You can play all your Windows and Mac games on your SteamOS machine, too.

http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamOS/

The problem is that SteamOS is basically a custom version of Ubuntu which means that they are not legally able to include directx and other window's graphics libraries. So the question is, how in the world could they accomplish this besides using wine, playonlinux, or something similar and even that would not be perfect.

I think that they stream the games from a running windows pc. Not really sure as I have been too busy to try.

Bioshock and Bioshock2 work very well with wine. Infinity does not apparently as it uses DirectX 11. Not sure about the rest of the games though.

Soon you will be able to use windows for gazing out of. :whistling:

I removed windows about a year ago as there are a ton of supported titles for linux/steam. I have been playing Fallout 3 via wine (works flawlessly) and have about 20 games(only 5 are big titles but still) on steam for linux.

Transistor is now out for Linux and Mac

This game has some rave reviews and is well worth a look if you like RPG's. The blog detailing the port is a neat read.

This War of Mine Now on Steam

In This War Of Mine you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers. The game provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle.

This looks like a stonking game, well worth checking out. :breakfast:
