Very cool. I bought the Voxatron bundle the other week when they just had that game and then they added like 6 more to the same package. Since I bought the original package, I was able to download all of the games added to the package.

Thought this might be useful for those folks running a decent GNU/Linux :whistling:

No offence intended for anyone using one of the  other penguins.

Nice visual tutorial, thanks for posting

How would you like to try out Jagex' new browser-based strategy game, 8Realms, with free access to VIP content which lets you play the game ahead of the February launch?

Well, we're letting you do just that with an exclusive VIP key, which also comes with a free in-game flag bearing the Bit-Gamer logo

Cradle

Cradle is a science-fiction first-person quest with freedom of movement. The story is built around the relations of the protagonist and a mechanical girl, who by enigmatic circumstances find themselves together in a yurt among the desert Mongolian hills. The player is to restore the lost functions of his companion's mechanical body parts and together reveal the mystery of the neglected entertainment park found not far from the yurt.

The videos look great. Looks like a modern Syberia an that was a fantastic game.

Flightgear

Founded in 1997, FlightGear is developed by a worldwide group of volunteers, brought together by a shared ambition to create the most realistic flight simulator possible that is free to use, modify and distribute. FlightGear is used all over the world by desktop flight simulator enthusiasts, for research in Universities and for interactive exhibits in museums.

FlightGear features more than 400 aircraft, a worldwide scenery database, a worldwide multi-player environment, detailed sky modelling, a flexible and open aircraft modelling system, varied networking options, multiple display support, a powerful scripting language and an open architecture. Best of all, being open-source, the simulator is owned by the community and everyone is encouraged to contribute.

A major update to this classic.

Three more that are still at the development stage and not really my cup of tea. Though Starbound looks like it might be good fun for the younger player.

Linux gaming may have taken a biggish step forward with these two projects. Both have raised money by public subscription. One exceeded the target figure by a vast margin and the other made enough money fro the developers to include a Linux version of the game. This shows that not only are developers taking notice of Linux but that the public are showing that Linux gaming is a profitable financial prospect.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2012/0...ech.net+feed%29

The Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter project, which aimed to raise $400,000 to create a next-generation example of the almost forgotten point-and-click genre, has ended its fundraising round with a whopping $3.3 million under its belt.

http://www.ubuntuvibes.com/2012/03/confirm...g-to-linux.html

http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/blog/

Wasteland 2 was on Kickstarter for last few days with a target of $900k. A Linux version was promised at $1.5 million funding and they have made it to this mark.

So yes, there will be a Linux version and you can confirm a DRM free copy for yourself for $15. The game won't be a first person shooter. With a top down perspective you will get a tactical feel for the situation. It will be turn based, tactical, with a storyline that will be deeper and broader.

They both sound like pretty good games and well worth a looksee

Linux Tycoon is the premier Linux Distro Building Simulator game in the universe.

(Truth be told: It’s probably the only Linux Distro Building Simulation game in the universe.)

So what exactly do you do in a Linux Distro Building game?

So glad you asked! Here’s some examples of the thrilling challenges you’ll find in Linux Tycoon:

I know lots of you folks have the odd spot of trouble with your os's so I trawled the net to find you all a way of relaxing in a fun and familiar way :thudna5:

I introduced you to Peter Hewitt some time ago. Peter is a retired Educator from Down Under that has dedicated much of his "leisure time" to writing software for kids.....

And he's done a good job of it.

Inspired by the work of Ken Starks I've decided to make two of my popular games freely available to Linux users. Sadly I'm a Linux ingénue so I can't offer any fancy packaging. Also I've been unable to master the wonders (?) of Linux sound - more of that later.

I'd be most interested to hear about your experiences so that I can build up a list of distros that work. My e-mail address is on my home page.

I know you are all busy folk but you may just have a few moments spare to have a look at these free offerings. They look pretty cool to me. :breakfast:

Excellent stuff!!

Yesterday, I ran across a game called Mari0 that is a cross between the NES Super Mario Bros and Portal. http://stabyourself.net/mari0/

YdWjI.gif

It is available in the normal Archlinux repos so it should be available in other distro's repos as well. The game is also available for Windows and Macs and it is only weighs in at 3.5mb.

A great open-source raceing game -----

http://www.speed-dreams.org/

It does look like being an improvement on TORCS from which it is forked. I didn't want to install from PPA which is the only repo option and couldn't get the stand-alone to run. I ended up installing Desura (which was an ordeal, like Steam I guess) and installing V1.4 from there, as version 2 is only available for Windows atm. It ran OK for a while after a niggly config of my Logitech gamepad and looked good, but ended up crashing my whole computer hard,as in reset button. Promising though, I might try it again when V2 for Linux is available.

I'll be checking out Mari0 too.

Update; Mari0 is not in Debian repo, so I downloaded the standalone binary. Amused to have to do this according to the readme:

root@brain:/home/roger# apt-get install love

Still wouldn't run though. :( Maybe not enough love. :D

Update 2: Need to run from the directory the binary is in

roger@brain:~/bin/mari0-linux$ love mari0_1.6.love

Looks good, need to play more later.

Dink Smallwood is an adventure/role-playing game, similar to Zelda (2D top view)

http://www.gnu.org/s...dink/index.html

Available for most of the dists out there.

That was the first game I ever tried to install on linux. :smile2: I never got it to work properly.

Now that I am a proper geek I think I will ahve another crack at it. There is an Arch package.

Just installing Freedink. Gotta love some of the package names; one of the dependencies is freepats, that's what my cat likes. :D

Later: Well I fed the old lady pig food, smashed all the water barrels, insulted the girl and killed all the pigs. Now I'm lost.

Tried the Arch package and the game seems to start and then I get a black screen that covers the whole monitor. Only way out is to go to another tty and kill freedink.

Yet another linux game fail. :'(

Odd as it works beautifully here even with 4 monitors. The reason I mention the monitors is because most games try to stretch between the monitorsl but mari0 started windowed and allowed me to go fullscreen on my main monitor.

I am getting the same with half a dozen games that I am trying in djl, Two are working but seven are not. It is not a major issue as I am happy playing with pies. :happyroll:

http://www.ubuntuvibes.com/2012/07/a-new-3d-action-rpg-game-is-coming-to.html

Legends of Aethereus is a 3D Action RPG being made using Unity3D game engine. The game is currently on kickstarter and it has been in development for more than year.
In our opinion the Linux Community has been somewhat forgotten by game developers despite its growing popularity. We also believe that Linux users will enjoy the game play style in Legends of Aethereus. Since our aim is to make a product for core gamers we felt it is very important to cater to the Linux Community since such a high percent have the same philosophy as ThreeGates. Nothing could make us happier than to provide a great game for the Linux Community.
