Here's an interesting story on what happens when people don't have AV (and firewall) protection. You've heard talk of "zombie" computers and in the last virus attack by SoBig (I think) that one of the goals of the virus was to acquire and build a network of these zombies for some unknown purpose. Now the zombies have been assembled and are being used to drive DoS (Denial of Service) attacks against spam block list services by hackers and spammers. Whether you agree or not with what spam block services try to do, if you don't protect your PC, then it can very well wind up making you part of an attack vector.-----------------------------------------------------------------Spam block lists bombed to oblivion ‘Bad guys have broken out the nuclear weapons,’ victim says By Mike Brunker MSNBC Sept. 24 — Denial of service attacks by “zombie armies†of compromised computers have put two more spam-blocking lists out of business, adding to the body count in what one victim described as an “all-out war†raging in cyberspace. http://www.msnbc.com/news/959094.asp
