As a person who spent over 21 years around Military Aviation, I always enjoyed the local airshows and speaking with the guys that used to work on those mighty war birds in their time and comparing notes so to say at the differences between the aircraft we worked on. Nice looking desktop Eric.

I added Sgt. Komansky's Silver Star medal, a small P-51, and an Me-109 to the wallpaper. Yeah, I'm kind of a 12 o'Clock High fan. Wait till you see my Combat! desktop. ;)

A good friend of mine was a navigator on a B-29. Not as purty as the 17. Just finished a book about a pilots experience flying the 29's during ww2....

Combat? Can you say "Sgt. Saunders?" Great show!!!

Sure did, Eric. What a disappointment to have gone all that far just to have it burn....I believe it was due to the gas genset? Have you seen Zeno's Warbirds Video Drive-in on the internet??

I wasn't familiar with Zeno's site, but I'm there right now watching the Memphis Belle vid. Thanks, Neil! :)

Take an old smpk4083 4gb mp3 player which only holds a 45min charge.

Install PCLinuxOS LXDE 2012.

Install Compiz.

Attach it to an old Compaq CQ62 which only holds a 60min charge and has a damaged hard drive from being dropped.

And you have:

For the dark forums background I am using the Stylish plugin

in Firefox with the Midnight Surfing - Global Dark Style.

It make every page I visit in Firefox dark.

Cheers

Thanks! I do not use Firefox so I will have to search for an alternative.

Nice.

I'm really not a big fan of dark themes...but they are so much easier on the eyes in a dark room.

Well as you can see by a screenshot of one of my screens, I like my darkness:

That is nice. A little more consistent in color than mine.

I see that you are using "Gabriel".

In which DE or WM are you in?

I would really like to find a theme in dark gray.

The one I'm currently using appears a little too brown to my bad eyes.

I am using that gtk theme on Xmonad but it should look the same on any environment you choose.

OK, as Eric suggested, the image discussion has been split off to Tips and Tricks: Image resizing in Posts - IPB Forum Style.

There was some intermixed dark theme and image resizing in the same post that got moved in the process. If you want any of that text in your posts here, copy and add to a existing posting of yours in this topic.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. It was just hard to actually split them off and maintain some continuity in both threads.

If this were my personal board, I wouldn't care much. However, on a tech support type board like this one, it's really confusing to the readers to see shredded off-topic threads when they're searching for solutions to their issues. Granted, they wouldn't be searching too much on this thread for solutions, but...

Oh, and never let it be said that I'm just being a jack-booted thug staffer... I am OFTEN guilty of steering threads into the ditch around here. :(

As I posted in the Tips and Tricks topic:

it was a great idea Eric! I was thinking of how to do it myself. It was just so intermixed. :hysterical:

It really did need doing.

Would the people using a dark theme care to post screenshots

and give some details on how they accomplished it?

I am wanting to switch over to using a dark theme (as I'm usually in a dim lit room)

and was just looking for some ideas.

Here are some screenshots of what my system looks like now using a dark theme.

KDE system colors are set to: Obsidian Coast

KDE desktop theme is set to: Androbit

Using Stylish plugin in Firefox with the Midnight Surfing - Global Dark Style

Colors in Thunderbird message window are set in Thunderbirds' settings.

Cheers

TIA

I like the way the Scot's website has a black background. I have black borders but could not figure out how to get the background black.

Here is mine on my laptop.

That is a browser extension/plugin. I use the chrome extension DarkChrome which gives you a button to turn on/off darkmode: http://forums.scotsn...450#entry349450

Alphaomega uses a Stylist plugin on Firefox with the Midnight Surfing Global Dark Style: http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/index.php?showtopic=19407&st=1450#entry349448
