daihard
Hi.I need to add my own entries to the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file so our Linux servers can be accessed from our new Vista box. My account is labelled as "Administrator."However, I can't save the file after modifying it. I simply edited the file using notepad, since I don't have gVIM installed yet, and hit "File" --> "Save." I get the popup dialog box saying the file cannot be saved. Can someone tell me what I am missing here? TIA,Dai

kkehoe
Hosts file in Vista is locked down with a bit more security to hinder the malware that likes to modify the file. That said, you can still modify it, as follows:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923947/en-usKevin
daihard
Aah, I see. Thanks guys. This issue occurs even though you log on by using an account that has administrative credentials. No offense really, but it makes me wonder what the meaning of an "admin" account is if there are things that it isn't allowed to do?
