Map network drive causes explorer hang

After reinstalling XP Pro/SP2 to my laptop I mapped a network drive, an external drive on my desktop computer, and explorer has slowed to a crawl. Just opening it takes 10 seconds or so and it hangs for up to 30 seconds while navigating it. This didn't happen until the reinstall.Does anyone know of a fix for this? Like "don't populate the network drive until I click on it"?

Hello,This Microsoft knowledge base article explains how to disable automatic searching for new network resources by Microsoft Windows XP. Does following the steps outlined in the article improve the speed and reliability of the network share?Regards,Aryeh Goretsky
