Nonags.com, tucows.com, Downloads.com.Not all the programs on these sites are freeware, but they all have the option of specifing that you want to search only free ware. Prelude76 Posted July 16, 2003 Share Posted July 16, 2003 I'd like to nominate a divx/avi movie player that i recently tried and can't live without now.its called BSPlayer. it's freeware, skinnable, handles every codec flawlessly, and is so un-bloated its amazing. loads super fast, not like Media Player v8 and v9.think all the power and speed of Media Player Classic (v6) and add an easy interface like WMP v9 or WinDVD, and add the amazing skins and you should have a good picture what it's like. and i never had any video stuttering or audio/video sync loss as i usually get with some other free players out there.try it, you might just get hooked quickly like i did. It can still only handle 64kb files and has NO features.Actually, Notepad in Windows XP finally breaks the 64 KB barrier.It was imposed by the standard Windows edit control, a.k.a. textbox. Most of the replacements simply use a rich edit control instead, which allows for virtually unlimited file sizes. (And it can be used for either rich text or plain.)Still was an awful program until recently. Not that it's great, but now it's at least "normal." It gets my computer back to exactly where it was at a known previous time. Unlike the restore program in winxp, it restores all files, not just the OS files. It works with AOL IM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, and even has an IRC client built in! I bought the Pro version to show my support for the program, but the free version is great! No ads, no spyware, nothing bad! Second would be Rainlendar. It's a very nice little calendar program that sits unobtrusively (and mostly transparent) on my desktop reminding me of the day! You can even add reminder notes to each day! I also use Rainmeter from the same site... it's a great sysinfo meter (even has the gkrellm skin available! ).Third is Mozilla Firebird. I love this browser, and while it's still got some shortcomings, and is only beta version 0.6, it's still IMO the best browser available! Probably have more, but these are the three best programs on my machine! Golf Pro is doing a good job of telling others about Rainlendar. You should get ClipMate for $25 (it is worth every cent), but if you have no money, you gotta have at least this.RoboForm - you never have to struggle with passwords again while surfing with IE or Netscape. Fill in a form once, RoboForm can fill it each time you go back to that page or site. I only wish it supported Opera.HTML-Kit - free; powerful HTML, CSS, etc. editorPPWizard - free; powerful html preprocessor. Posted as a separate message but I thought I would also put a link to that in this Hall of Fame thread. mp3DirectCut is a surprisingly good utility and is very small. For its limited purposes, it seems to work very well indeed. Check it out. Oh, I don't really know if it deserves fame or not, but at least I'm impressed. I've known about it a while, finally downloaded a while ago to speed up an older laptop of mine with Win98SE. (I have 4.5 preview, works for me.
