Hi StrikerSorry ive not been in touch, had to go on holiday to celebrate new year, this to my utter dissapointment involved drinking loads of beer and generally having a good time, i would of course rather have been sat here trying to fix my laptop.R:\WIN95>SETUP TXT 34,612 12-31-95 9:50ASMARTDRV EXE 45,145 12-31-95 9:50AWB16OFF EXE 537 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_02 CAB 1,280,512 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_03 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_04 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_05 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_06 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_07 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_08 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_09 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_10 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_11 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_12 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_13 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_14 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_15 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_16 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_17 CAB 2,048,000 12-31-95 9:50AWIN95_18 CAB 812,755 12-31-95 9:50AXMSMMGR EXE 14,144 12-31-95 9:50A 32 FILE(S) 35,411,464 BYTES 2 DIR (S) 0 BYTES FREER:\WIN95Thanks for the concern guys,Nice to know somebody was worried about me :hmm: Thanks for your help,Tony.

Welcome back Tony, and a happy new year to you all !I believe we might have a little problem overhere, I do not recognize the files you posted in the WIN95 directory as from an official Microsoft cd. That might be the problem, otherwise we should have managed by now to get you all started and running again. So the question James asked a couple of post ago : "Did this CD come with this laptop?" might be applicable now. Can you answer that question for us? Secondly, what's the brand and type of that laptop?sorry James, we crossposted - go ahead...

No problem, my friend. Let's see if this gets our man Tony somewhere. :whistling:
Hi James,Thanks for the link, all seems straight forward apart from pretty much everything :hmm: , would you be able to do a step by step as to copying files and running the setup.Sorry about this,Tony.
Are you able to perform step #2, Tony?

Hi Sorry im a little confused, the only c.d i have is the companion c.d, i assumed the link you sent me allows you to run setup from the files copied to the hard drive from the c.d, the problem is that having read the link im still unsure of how to do this, if you could tell me how to copy the files and run setup from the hard drive( in idiot form) that would be great.Regards,Tony.

Tony, you cannot perform an install with the Companion CD, unless (as step #2 says) you have another Win95 CD to copy the required setup files from. Anybody you know that might have a Win95 CD (full retail version) kicking around?

Try copying the setup files to a folder on the hard drive and start setup from there. It is likely that setup cannot find the CD because at the point it needs the CAB file the install drive (CDROM) is missing (because no CD-ROM drivers have been loaded, and the drive is not mounted). Either that or the CAB file on "Disk 19" is corrupt/unreadable.

Hi Windows will run and can use most of the functions on it, is the problem that this 1 file is missing ? RegardsTony.

I located WIN95_19.CAB which is 1.15MB. I'll load it up to usendit so you can get it.I will need a guru to come on here and tell Tony what he needs to do after he gets the CAB file. I assume it will be put on a floppy because what I have burned to a CD are all the old WIN 95 floppies. Then he will need instructions on how to get this cab into his current install.Paste this link into your browser to get the file

The link expires in 7 days.

That's very helpful of you, Liz. (You always are.)I'm not a guru, but I think he needs to extract the specific files to the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\system folder. As for the screen problem, install the appropriate drivers for the onboard video, and set resolution/refresh rate to default.

If double-clicking on the file in Windows Explorer (then select file/s and drag to another folder) does not work, any file compression utility can extract the file/files.
