epp_b
Maybe someone named their profile "Google.com"
Jeber
For Google to index the forum and make the posts available to Google search, their bots have to be given member status. We have a couple of search bots thus entitled.

greengeek
On some forums they seem to be there all day, they send PMs, read PMs, view members profiles, view all forums etc., pretty much like any ordinary member except that they're just computer generated bots! zlim
read PMs? I don't like the idea of a bot from google reading my PMs!
epp_b
They shouldn't be able to by design.
Specmon
Maybe it is reading its own PMs.Can the bot receive PMs?Can we talk to the bot?Wonder what the bot thinks about.Being part of Google must be like being a Borg.He is here to assimilate us. Our resistance is futileWe can name our Google bot Hugh.

Scot
All --The GoogleBot, and others, have always been there. We used to make them invisible to all but Admins. They can't read PMs, they don't cause excessive server load, and they're nothing more, really, than an indication of the success of these Forums. The bots are here because they think we're all posting interesting things and they want to be sure they don't miss anything. The bots aren't people. They also have limited privileges on the site. They can read stuff, and that's about it. That's also all they want to do -- follow links and index what's new since their last visit. If a majority of people would prefer not thave the bots displayed at the bottom of the Forums home page, that's and Admin setting that's easy to change.-- Scot
muckshifter
Naw, don't hide them, I like to be kept company when nobody else is around ... they do no harm, so don't pick on 'em. 1 vote to Keep five alive ...
rolanaj
So are we calling this bot hugh or five? He/she or it does no harm as far as I'm concerned either.
