sankethiman Posted June 14, 2005 Share Posted June 14, 2005 I am facing this problem for a few days.When I click Tools-Folder Options-File Types,CPU Usage goes up to 100 percent.Windows Task Manager shows that it is explorer.exe which is using up all these resources. To delete some extensions without waiting for Windows Explorer to load them all, grab an old copy of RegCleaner v4.3 http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/There is a file types tab in it and you can start deleting some from the list. Am saying Unfortunately,since the problem would have been simpler to resolve.Got into Safe Mode as suggested by James.Same thing.Explorer.exe hogs all the CPU Usage,computer hangs and I have to do hard reboot.Waiting for some solution. Are there any references to programs you no longer have installed, for instance?I would even be tempted to try a registry cleaner in a situation like this. Can you log in as a different user and see if it is your profile that is corrupt? I kept trying all the options suggested by you all, hence the delay in reply.It was probably a program that I had installed which did all this,but for the life of me I could not find out the program.To cut the long story short, I have this Nifty Program "ERUNT ",which makes a copy of the registry every day.It was a registry setting of 02 Jun, which did not show this problem 100 percent CPU Usage.Thereafter it was a minor matter of cleaning up the bits and pieces and am now ready to face the world!! ERUNT is a great little program to have as is NTREGOPT from the same developer.
