March 8th, 2005, marks the second anniversary of Scot's Newsletter Forums. Scot started the forums as a place for readers of his popular online newsletter, Scot's Newsletter (which is celebrating its 4th anniversary in March) to get together and discuss the topics raised in the newsletter and share their computer knowledge with one another. With the invaluable aid of administrator Arena2045, the new forums opened to great popularity and have continued to grow steadily in membership and contributions ever since. In celebration of the start of our third year, Scot and Arena2045 have upgraded the forums to a brand-new look. The new version of the forums is proving very popular among the Highlanders, as we call ourselves. And Bruno, a moderator and major-domo of the All Things Linux forum, has put together a special distribution of Linux just for the Highlanders who may be interested in exploring this alternative operating system. Two versions are available for download, ATL-Live.iso (634MB download, minimum 256MB Memory) and MINI-ATL-Live.iso (186MB download which runs on older systems like a Pentium 1). A screen shot of the default desktop can be found here. The live CD is based on PCLos8/Mandrake. It has the KDE 3.3 window manager and is fully featured with all kind of programs. The MINI version is based on Knoppix/Morphix but has no fancy wallpaper and uses Fluxbox as window manager. Check out the “Read Me†file included on the download site for further information and installation tips. Should you need more help, read Bruno's Tips for Linux Explorers. Please send a personal message through the forums to Bruno to get the URL of the download mirrors. This is necessary to avoid overloading the download sites, all kindly donated by fellow Highlanders. If you're on dialup but would like to receive a copy of ATL-Live, contact a forum moderator for more information. Please enjoy our new look and check out the special anniversary edition of Linux. We welcome one and all to Scot's Newsletter Forums.
