Isn't hda5 the SWAP partition that Mepis uses??? (Goodbye Mepis). What happened to the FAT FREE?What Happened to the NEVER EVER have Windows on this Computer?You would be better to format the whole drive, do your Windows thing, and then re-install Mepis........... Else you are going to get in one BIG mess.

OOPS David & StrikerFORGOT or did NOT REALISE Mepis used hda5 as the swap too And YES it is GOODBYE Mepis & PCLos and STILL have NOT got windows on because of MAANY reasonsAm in PCLOs live Colin

Best of luck Colin....May you get it working as you want it to one day, or get a different Motherboard, or computer for that matter.You're just going from one problem to another one, with no rest in between. I'm glad "I" don't have that much tenacity for pursuing problems.

What you can do is boot up with Mandrake CD, or another distro CD and tell it to FORMAT the disk in FAT... I am pretty sure some of them DO IT. then reboot when that's done and remove the CD.After that I have NO other advice on what you need to do.

Thanks DavidI did the only thing possible "REINSTALLED PCLOS" and it will be Nepis's turn soon after possibly andother install of pclos to remove the empty hda1 "Win_c" partition that does not seem to be formatted OOPS it says it is "VFAT"Colin

An alternative to 98\XPlite is nLite.http://nuhi.msfn.org/It has a different approach for the same objective, but with, I think, better results. It is also free.

To use XPlite you need Windows XP installed. XPlite only gives you the option to uninstall Windows components/features so your XP will be leaner. It isn't an operating system, and you can run/use it only within XP.If you have Windows 98, you have to install that first and then run 98lite. Like XPlite, it gives you the option to modify your 98 installation according to your needs. I've used it a lot years ago (on K6-2/3 and P-II gaming setups) and I can say it works great.After everything you can begin re-installing your Linux distros.
