  1. I remember the days of using Mandriva 6.1 then 7.2 from there you had to pay for mandriva, so i stopped using it ... I also remembered Bruno bugging me to use rpm distro's ... I always thought that rpm distros were evil because if there was a way to crash them i would find the way lol ... But I am glad you like Manjaro ... As for Arch it's an amazing distro i can't recommend it enough, I used to be a slacker and tried Arch and loved it!!! ... the Arch family is great always helping one another and then of course you have SB here the guru of Arch i am sure he and Eric forgot more things about Linux then we will ever learn... I also think they are doing a fabulous job here Bruno would be really proud!!! I think that .deb distros are awesome i started with debian 2.1 not sure what year that was thou ... now if I could make a suggestion since you brought Gentoo. Try LFS you might like it.. As a matter of fact there is version 8 If i can install it anyone can, just take your time and don't rush and you will do well...
  2. I don't know about most here but i still have 6 distros installed. debian - sid - everyday comp debian - jessie - server archlinux - love it kali - just because opensuse 13.2 - always had problems with rpm distro based so i have one installed. LFS 7.3 - i also have about 8 viirtual OS including windows, last time i had a windows on my comp was windows xp not sure when win7 came out but never installed it.
  3. Its nice what you want to do ... i also have a laptop with windows xp ( i like ) and windows 7 and 3 distros on it hard drive is only 500 gig this is what i did on mines and the tools i used .... EasyBCD 2.2 = very easy to use gpart == all i used for partitions Double driver == backup all your drivers = it's free and easy to use. unless your good with DD errr never mind this will save headaches rt7lite = configure your windows to your liking remove junk and make it your liking ( on windows if thats possible. ) next i don't know if i can post it here will check with mods ...
  4. I use this command a lot in everyday use what i do is create backup copy of everything i work on here is what i mean the file i want to work on called test i want no duplicates and all in order in create backup of test sort test | uniq > test2 i created a file called test2 which has I know you guys know all this stuff but maybe it helps others ...
  5. Is your second drive only 41 gig?
  6. I am sorry Rejean I had to step out for a little while but i am back now, please don't change the permissions of that folder or files. .... We will get this fixed. ... before we do any changes can you do a # blkid # fdisk -l I just want to see if it's picking up the 2nd hard drive. and what the system file is. Then we can make the changes to the file so it will give you permission to mount all your drives.
  7. Yep, no problem can you do$ ls -l /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/
  8. Honestly I don't know much about movies, but have you tried. dvd::ripalso ogmripfrom what i gathered it is great for backing up your own movies
  9. Good catch Frank, you beat me to it, your too fast
  10. Hi Rejean I am sorry my mistake thought you were in Kde. .... Well the same applies for Nautilus press Ctrl+L to show Nautilus Location entry...I am sure you know this but if you always wanted the location always displayed go to >>>>> gconf-editor >>>/apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_location_entry,change value to True that way you will always have a location bar on top....... it's less confusing if you have many partitions ......and not sure why your mounting all your partitions by hand. ..... are they not showing up on nautilus and devices? do you not see all your partitions there? As for the new hard drive you did partition it and format it no?
  11. hi Rejean yeah you have to be very careful with dd I am glad you got it all that sorted out. I still don't know why you want to create an imagine file? All you want to do is transfer your distro to your new HD right? There are many ways you can do it. Since you have Pclos why not create your new partitions on new HD then format the partitions. ... as far as transferring your distro from one place to another hmmm maybe the easiest way is to use cp... I have done this way many times so i know it works. NOTE After you transfer distro to your new hard drive you will have to fix your grub and your fstab say your old distro is /media/x and you want to transfer to say /media/y .... you would make sure both those 2 partitions are mounted. and run # cp -Rap /media/x/./ /media/y/ if you didn't label your partitions thats ok too. what you do is open dolphin go to the partition you want to copy and press CTRL + L that will give you the location ....... then go open the location you want evertyhing copied too and again CTRL + L ...... you should have something like /media/disk and destination would be /media/disk-5 so far so good??????????? ok next what you do is # cp -Rap /media/partition_u_want_copied/./ /media/new_partition/ or better example in this case would be # cp -Rap /media/disk/./ /media/disk-5/ if your old hard drive is not good use ddrescue to salvage what you can.
  12. thanks Josh I had to go back and # some of the sources so the new people wouldn't have all those repo in their source list.
