News: Install media 2012.07.15 released
2012-07-22 - Pierre Schmitz
New iso images containing a current Arch Linux snapshot have been released and can be found on our Download page.

Most notable change is that AIF (the Arch Installation Framework) is no longer included but instead some simple install scripts are provided to aid in the installation process. This means a menu driven installer is no longer available and we rely more on documentation to guide new users. We would like to encourage our community to fill in the remaining gaps in our wiki.

From now on our install images are signed and it is highly recommend to verify their signature before use. On Arch Linux this can be done by using pacman-key -v <iso-file>.sig...........

I'm confused. Is the Arch install getting easier (more Ubuntu-ish) or more complicated (Gentoo-ish)? Posted Image

Ah ha my bad for not elucidating. WYTIWYG = What You Type Is What You Get. :shifty:

Josh if you are doing a rewrite would you consider a more geeky alternative to that sop to the proletariat Gnome and try, say E17 or Window Maker. o:)

Thanks for the suggestion but I do not think I would suggest WIndowMaker or E17 on a new user's installation. Too much of a learning curve.

I can't say I completely agree with you on this one Josh and here is why.  A Linux user making the leap into an OS such as Arch or Slackware is doing this once comfortable with the basics of Linux.  I have yet to install WindowMaker but E-17 was a piece of cake as was KDE.  But for a base line GUI install, you have to pick one so Gnome is just as good for a tutorial as any of the others.  ;)
