Well after a few sessions with my neighbor's Windows 7 computer - cleaning, disk checking, defragging, dumping crapware, malware scanning - I need a Linux break. Right now I'm in good old Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon - no crapware, no malware, no antivirus checker sapping the CPU, running just as fast as the day I installed it. Ahhhh.... :clap2:

Me too.

My little Lenovo ThinkPad dual-boot  machine, Windows 7 (for school and work) and ArchLinux (for my sanity) works great with either.
But, Arch is smoking fast to Windows 7's pretty fast.

My blood pressure and cholesterol levels drop dramatically just by booting into Linux. DISCLAIMER: Not intended as a medical opinion or endorsement, you're experience may vary.

I'm not a doctor, but I play one on the Internet. My advice is to download your favorite Linux and install it quickly. Boot up, sit back, relax... ahhhhhmmm... ahhhhmmm... Life is good.

Listen closely, Grasshopper. You can almost hear crond's single hand clapping in the background.

I find when I boot into Windows 7 on my laptop I get confused, no idea where anything is anymore. My son gets more use out of my laptop than I do I swear. I use it when I skype with my oldest daughter and only because it has a better webcam than my PC. Getting back to my PC is such a relief , seems funny when you think about what a big step switching to linux seemed to be years ago.

Maybe because we are always fixing problems here and tweaking things, we tend to forget how carefree it can be to just use Linux after it has been set up properly. My wife uses a desktop and a notebook that run Linux and she really doesn't notice a huge difference in what she does (email, web browsing.) That may be because I tend to use the FOSS alternatives even in Windows.
A friend has a desktop I set up for him with Mageia. Recently he got a new printer and called me for advice on how to install it. I gave him some simple instructions about using the Control Center and he did everything himself.

I'm reminded of how carefree just using Linux is when I realize that none of my Linux converts ever call me anymore with computer issues. ;)

Linux could be a very lonely place if you let it.
Fortunately, we have all you folks here at SNF and, especially, BATL.

I too use FOSS alternatives for many things and in all my OSes, and find them comparable and in some cases better than their pay to play counter parts.

Great stuff!
